Tn addition it was learned that
citizens in the E. Franklin-Rose
mary St. neighborhood surround
ing the $t.l million proposed
project are appealing the build
ing permit issued for the remain
ing portion of the job. .

Two permits issued
On May 4 Building Inspector
Howard Stewart issued two per
mits to Hunt Construction Co. of
Durham, contractor for principal
owner Abe Greenberg of Dur
ham. One permit was for 80
units, which under the RA-10
zoning classification of the area
would require 405,000 square
feet
A subsequent check by the
Town shewed Mut this area
| bed only 390,000 square feet.
Thus the bertriit Was revoked
aria the owner, by letter from
the Building Inspector given
the alternatives of obtaining
more lend, cutting off three of
*he> 80 apartment units, or ap
pealing the ruling to the Board
of Adjustment. There were
conflicting reports yesterday as
to which 'course would be fol
lowed.
Meanwhile, a hearing was set
for May 29 before the Chapel Hill
aldermen and the Planning Board

for the area to RA-20, an upgrad
ing which wopld prevent the
building according to present

The second building permit for
the project provides for three
more eight-unit apartment build
ings to be built on an adjoining
tract just past the end off E. Rose
mary St. While the required 129,'
000 square feet in the tractls ad
equate space under zoning Re
quirements for this project, it is

has appealed to the Board of Ad

Town Manager Thomas D. Rose
