Jilnior High football practice at Hillsboro got underway Au gust 15 with a few more than fifty boys reporting for practice. The squad was divided into two groups and these groups practiced St different times for ■ about a week to give every boy a chance to show what he could do. “Due to the fact that sev eral of Hie bey* Weighed less than loo poands and also because . we can only equip about thirty beys, We had to but the squad,” said Coach Hugh Burch. “The boys who were cut will probably r gain enough weight to partici pate in a year or so since many ; Of them ere seventh-graders. We are looking forward to -having them come out next August 15.” The team is fortunate 4o have Bob Haas, band* director, and Monroe Knight to assist Coach Burch. Haas coached the New Hanover High School Junior Varsity at Wilmington for two years and Knight was a standout football player for Hillsboro High School just a short time ago. “We lest our starting beck field to the varsity and two line men that we had counted on keeping,” said Coach Burch, “but 4f the new beys learn their assignments properly we should have a well-balanced team. I feel confident the boys will do what is expected of them be cause they have been working I hard and have been showing a i lot of spirit and enthusiasm,” he ! said. The Junior High team consists of the following boys: Ends—Wesley Scarlett, Larty White, Wayne Harrelson, Ricky Breeze and Johnny Cates. Tackles—Kent Murray, Buster Graham, Boh Jones, Dickie Strum, Johnny Bivins, Brant Bob bitt, Andrew Brown and Tomnty Copeland.
