JAYCEES WILL HEAR . . .
Candidates for contested offices in the County Demo
cratic primary election ■frill appear before the Chapel Hill
Jaycees next Thursday night . . . Each will have three
minutes for his campaign talk, to be followed by questions
from the audience and from each other . . The initial
one of these round-robins will be held tonight in the Negro
Community Center at Chapel Hill under sponsorship of
Young Adults for Community Improvement . . . Similar
shows are set for the Democratic rally-barbecue in Hills
boro on May 12 and at the League of Women Voters candi
dates meeting May 15.
NO DOUBLE REGISTRATION .
It would not .be legally permissable under state law for
Chapel Hill persons to register for both the Chapel Hill (or
Carrboro or Hillsboro) town elections at the same, time as
they signed up for the primary, school board and general
elections beginning nekt week . . . This was ascertained-by
a check of statutes in Chapel Hill to see if the built-in
confusion could be avoided. If and when, as is being more
frequently proposed, Orange County adopts a loose-leaf
voting registration, one registration would cover any and
all elections in the county.
HOT AND HEAVY . . .
As of this Saturday—-the beginning of registration period
—the potential constituent will note more and more poli
ticking on the part of primary candidates . . . There’s be
a big hello, handshake, and back slap for acquaintances
long scarcely recognized. The honeymoon is on, in fact,
in the final four-week count down to the ballot box.
