Hillsboro board backs new road The town administration has provided strong backing lor the proposed new bridge and access road into Hillsboro from Inter state 85, but a minor flurry of opposition has eveloped from - some sources, principally friends sympathetic to affected property owners whose property may be damaged through proximity to the new road. A movement has been afoot for several weeks to obtain civ ic club action in protest to the new entrance highway which wiH be'built near the homes of Miss Elizabeth Collins and Mrs. Ev elyn Parsley and Miss Collins has written her objection to President Kennedy, noting her concern for ‘‘the unnecessary public spending” as evidenced by the new Highway, with copies to the Governor, county and town governing boards. Her letter, along with that of - Mayor Fred Claytor of Hills boro, writing' to Gov. Sanford for the Town Board, was made public by the County Cernmis day. - 4a his letter the Mayor noted “a few vigorous complaints by a few individuals opposed to the plan,” and continued as follows: “We wish to assure you that ex ecution of the plan will be in the best interest of the Town of Hillsboro, the travelling public and the great majority of the citizens of this community. We wish to go on record again as a governing body of Hillsboro as toeing strongly in favor of this improvement and respectful ly urge that all concerned with the construction thereof proceed in. this matter with dispatch.” : The new approach to Hills boro, now approved toy the High way Commission using federal funds on a matching basis, was instigated originally toy the Hills boro Merchants Association- and members of the Town (Board and County Commissioners.
