Hilisbcro meets Northern Dur ham at Orange Speedway-"and Chapel Hill plays Southern Dur ham at Carrboro Lions Park. OVER IN RALEIGH STATE and local authorities are follow ing with great interest a matter that could eventually have an ef fect in Chapel Hill. At the re quest of a survey, is being made by the state of its holdings there to determine a Value on its automatically tax exempt property. Raleigh has for some time been discussing the matter of some payment in lieu of taxes by the state, since it provides traditional munici pai services free of charge, just as Chapel Hill does for the Un iversity. —It was even casually suggested, though not seriously, that Raleigh^ de-annex the state buildings in the uptown district. Then they’d at least qualify for out-ol-town double water rates! CHAPEL HILL POLICE HAVE had a previous acquaintance with, phosphorous, prior to the mysterious blaze discovered near the campus last Saturday night. Phosphorous was suspected as an incendiary agent at one point in the investigations of the fires set several years ago in several UNC buildings by con fessed arsonist Richard Satter white. And last year burning ‘■phosphorous -caused -a.blare- of minor proportions in a chemical storeroom of the UNC pharma cy building.
