Crafts Show, sponsored by. the
Hillsboro Garden Club, has been
set for March 3, from 2 to 6 p.
m., at the American Legion Hut.
Exhibits are wanted from the
various fields of art. Persons
who would like to share their
talents in an exhibit at this show

A small admission will be
charged. Proceeds will be used
for the Orange County Histori
cal Museum which is sponsored
by the Garden Club.

$12,500 goal set for April 21 drive . . .
Three co-chairmen named for cancer crusade

-George Nicholson, and George
.Hogan have been named co
chairmen of Orange County’s 19
63 Cancer Crusade, to begin Ap
ril 21 with a $12,500 goal. They
•were appointed this week by
Jim Falconer, Chapel Hill insur
ance man, who is president of
the American Cancer Society’s
Orange County unit.
Sheriff Knight will direct the
campaign in Hillsboro and the j
rural areas of the county. Mrs. j
Nicholson will have charge of i
the work in the Carrboro and •
Chapel Hill residential areas, |
Mr. Hogan will be chairman at j
large, helping in all areas.
Mr. Falconer also announced
the appointment this week of
Justice Haswell of the Bank of
Chapel Hill as crusade treasur
er, Judge L. J. Phipps as chair
man of advance gifts, and Mrs.
Lucy Sutton as chairman of the
Chapel Hill business district.
Mrs. Sutton will be assisted by
Miss Elizabeth Branson. Other
appointments will be announced
soon.
Mr. Falconer, the three chair
men, and Mrs. Lindsay Neville,
the unit’s executive secretary,
launched plans for the campaign
Monday evening at a meeting in
Mr. Falconer’s office in the
Hayes Building at the Glen Len
nox Shopping Center.
The purpose of the crusade is
twofold: To give house-to-house
information on cancer and to
collect funds for .the battle a
gainst it Much of the proceeds
is used to help Orange County
cancer patients who need assist
ance. This includes drugs, bed
linens, therapy, transportation
to and from sites of treatment,
home nursing, and household
help. Proceeds provide funds for
research and education.

Feb. 10-16 according to Doug
Yates, President, The Chapel
Hill Exchange Club, local spon
sor of the campaign. Similar
plans are being made by the Ex
changeites in Hillsboro, where
Mayor Fred Clator has issued a
local Crime Prevention Week
proclamation.
Plans for the seven - day pro
gram of crime prevention ac
tivities here include: on Feb. 10,
the members and their families
will attend, the “Go-To-Church
Sunday” services in a'group at
the University Baptist Church.
Monday, Feb. 11, the Crime Pre
vention Poster Contest sponsor
ed by the Exchange Club will
be judged and the trophies and
awards will be given the winn
ers. The students in the Chapel
Hill School system participated
in the contest.
Wednesday, Feb. 13, will be
Police Open House,. with a dis
play of weapons and scientific
crime detection equipment, tours
of the police department and
jail. -
