THE FACT THAT THE UNC Department of Statistics is, ac cording to our observation, the first group or person to have the local Zip Code number printed on the return address portion of its envelopes is no doubt attrib utable to professional pride on the part of the good mathemati cians. Despite the myriad jin gles, entreaties, and reminders of postal officials we had not previously seen a single printed letter-head or printed envelope that bore the requested Zip Code v; at the end of the return address. That the Department of Statistics has been so appropriately obe dient is only being true to its calling in this great world of 'figures. THE NAME OF FORMER DUR ham Mayor E. J.
