HE’LL KEEP THE WEIGHTS-Orange County
4 Superior Court Clerk Edwin Al. Lynch has been offi
cudly designated by the county commissioners as Keep
er of the. Weights, a 20-piece set of standard weights
and measures bought for the County in England in
1758 and still owned by the County. While the office
of weightnasier is now only an honorary post, the ap
pointment was made by the Board at the request of
the Hillsborough Historical Society, calling attention i
to the exhibit of the old-time weights in the County j
Historical Museum in the old Courthouse.

BOOSTERS OF THE CHAPEL
High School basketball team,
which will enter the State Cham
pionship Tourament in Durham
against Northern Forsyth at 7:15
tonight, are asked to join a mo
tor cavalcade to the game,„,meet
ing at 6:15 this'evening at the
high school. The Wildcats won
the District IH-AAA title from
Enloe High School, 56-43, in Ra
leigh last Saturday night. Last
time the locals were district
champs was in 1957—when Caro
lina was Number One in the na
tion, quite, overshadowing the
hometown high school’s feats.
THE DISTRICT PLANNING
Board in Chapel Hill has ’accept-;
ed an invitation to visit a local
trailer park with th? idea, as
proposed, by the owners, of clear
ing up some misconceptions on
the quality of mobile housing,
the way of life in trailer parks,
and to better acquaint them with
trailer park housing in general.
The invitation was ^tended by
the Moodys for their develop
ment of about 75 trailers on
N.C. Hwy. 86 north of Chapel
Hill. No definite visitation date
has been set as yet. , >
AN UNUSUAL: STEP HAS
been taken by the court in Hills
borough this week with regard
to pending jurors. Those await
ing service have been directed,
by. Judge Raymond Mallard not j
to Stay in the courtroom during
trials they’re not sitting on, but
to remain available nearby on
call. Since testimony in the civil
rights cases tried is so much j
alike, the Court intends to avoid'
jurors having any pre-fonned
opinions insofar as possible by
their having sat in the audience
during preceding trials.—Accord
ing to the answers of most pros
pective jurors to attorneys ques
tions pitifully few read news
papers, listen to radio, or look

HONOR RETIRED ORANGE FARM AG ENT-Artist Edmund Strudwick of -
Hillsborough and Orange County Farm Agent Ed P, Barnes are seen with the newly
finished portrait of former Farm Agent Don 8. Matheson, who retired last summer
after 34 years in this post. Commissioned with funds given by the public in appreci
ation of Matheson’s services, the portraits being hung in the County Agricultural
Building. Gifts from Mr. and Mrs, Matheson and from the public subscriptions have
also been used to found a Four-H Fund, interest from which is being used to give
