Woman picket
pays $10 fine
A Chapel Hlfl woman nas paid
a fine of $10 and costs 4n an
out-of-court settlement of a pub
lic drunkenness arrest made
while she was picketing a beer
parlor on Fri. night, April 10.
The fine was paid to Hie Clerk
blf the Chapel Hill Recorder’s
Court on April 15 for Mrs. Anne
Ray Cotterill, charged by police
with public drunkenness while
picketing a W. Franklin St. es
tablishment in behalf of equal
service for Negro patrons. A po
liceman was on duty at the scene
that evening as a precaution
agjainst any disorder during the
picketing, wliich has been car
ried on in recent weeks on a reg
ular schedule.

intoxicated. In response to a tele
phone call from inside the es
tablishment the police said they
went to investigate.
iThey said the man told them
they would cease picketing until
the next team of pickets came to
relieve them at about 10 o’clock.
When it became obvious that the
woman was intoxicated, they
said, they took her to the police
station for booking. She was re
leased on $25 bond when a friend
came for her. When questioned
Mrs. Cotterill admitted that she
had partaken of some cocktails
earlier, the police said.
