Since then the record’s been broken twice— most recently on July 6 when 609 books were taken out. That’s better than one-a-minute for the nine-hour Library day, but swel tering staff workers said it seemed like about 20-jper-minute! THE MAYOR OF CHAPEL .Hill and the Judge of the local Recorder’s Court now have $9.00 worth of walnut gavel and block (to rap it on) in carrying out their official public duties. The new instrument was received yes terday and turned over to ’the custody of the Clerk of Court. It’ll be kept under lock *and key except when in use. Previously the gavel was kept in a drawer on the Judge’s bench. But some body recently took it out to use it and didn’t put it bade. HOSPITAL SAVING ASSOC 1A tion is carrying out an extensive beautification project in the building of its new employee and visitor parking lot beside tihe newly-enlarged building on W. Franklin St. The wide brick sidewalk is being extended, flank ed by an attractive pierced brick wail. From this there will be a double entrance stairway down to a shrubbery garden in which a circular walk will be built. Ibis will extend afbout 120 feet back from the sidewalk to the new parking lot.
