WITH THE APPROACH OF the holiday season, a number of rural residents have asked the News to write something about the thoughtless city dwellers who annually raid the nearby farms (for holly, cedar and pine, without bothering to ask the property owners for permission to cut them. Often, they say, the own ers might permit such cutting if approached. More often they have plans themselves for the nearby bounty, but would be glad to sug gest certain trees for cutting. In any event, it’s only right to ask S for permission before cutting oth ers' property and such vandalism is highly resented. THE CHAPEL HILL MAYOR reported yesterday that he had talked to various people recently about the possibility of their ser ving on the local Housing Au thority. He said he was yet op timistic on filling the vacancies created on the five-member body by the resignations last summer of Bill Cherry and Bill Hobbs. CHAPEL HILL OFFICIALS had no immediate success last Thursday in their plea before the State Library Commission to ap propriate federal aid funds for the local public library.
