The'idea was publicly aired in last week’s Newsman’s Notepad column of The News, in citing this as a new project of the Chamber of Commerce lo cally. Since "then The Raleigh * Times has picked up the editorial cudgel, too. The News intends to gives this project all the en couragement and coverage it can, cooperatively with the Chamber and interested groups in Durham and Raleigh. The suggestions of any interested readers are hereby solicited. AN ORANGE BLOSSOM OF public appreciation is awarded to The Carolina Inn for the un usually beautiful lighted Christ mas tree that illuminated the lawn in front of the Bin nightly during the recent Yhletide. An other praiseworthy effort is that of the Town Board in Hills borough which is responsible for the lighted tree on the courthouse Larwn each Christmas. THREE CHAPEL HILLIAHS <wer« recently given appointments to state committees by Gov. San ford. Mrs. Herbert McKay was named to the North Carolina Good Neighbor Council for an in definite term. She’s the outgoing Democratic National CommiUee wornan for N.C., and is a mem ber of the National Citizens Com mittee for Community Relations. ' Drs. Richard M. Peters and J. Kempton Jones were appointed to the Commission to Study the Cause and Control of Cancer in (North Carolina. DEMOCRATIC PARTY FAITH ful across the County have been questionably flattered during the past few days to receive gold em bossed engraved invitations from the Inaugural Committee to the President’s Inaugural Ball in Washington — with an RSVP at the rate of $750 per eight-person box or $25 for an individual tic ket f Scarcely less impressive (though not engraved) are the follow-up invitations sent for the Jan. 10 inaugural reception — which carry only a $10 per each “catch” with them. AN1NT THE DAN MOORE IN THEY'LL ESCORT HIS EXCELLENCY' - The widely-acclaimed Orange High School marching band, now considered one of the top high school units in the State, received new .recognition in connection with the Dan Moore inaugural activities scheduled irt Raleigh next Thursday. The governor-elect fulfilled an election promise by inviting the Hillsborough unit to participate in the of ficial inaugural parade. Now, it has been learned from the inaugural committee, the local band will be a part of the governor-elect’s escort from the Mansion to the swearing in rites at Memorial Auditorium. The high-stepping Orange students will be leading the first section of official cars and according to schedule will arrive at the Auditorium at 11:40 a.m. Orange High is one of only three high school hands from the entire State selected for the inaugural honor, others being the governor-elect's hometown hand of Canton and the Cary High School. To/> military units to participate include the famed 82nd Airborne hand, the Second Marine Division hand, the Minth Air Force hand and the 30th Infantry| Division hand; t he Hillsborough Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Hillsborough Lions Club will provide lunches for the band and also cokes and cake in the Manteo Room of the Sir Walter Hotel after the parade. ACCORDING TO A SIGN erected on the lot Monday of this /week, the Y. L. Honey organiza tion of Charlotte will shortly erect a Honey’s Restaurant on its suburban commercially-zoned lot at the corner of S. Hamilton Rd. across from Glenwood School. Honey’s has expansive drive-in type restaurants in Durham, Greensboro and Charlotte. MISS MARGARET VIRGINIA Sparrow, daughter of Mr. and 'Mrs. Richard W. Sparrow of Far rington Rd., Chapel Hill, will be one of the 150 sponsors for the 1065 inaugural ball to be held next Thursday night in honor of Gov.-Elect and Mrs. Dan Moore. She was tapped for this honor by Step. Donald M. There will be three seats expiring on the Chapel Hill School Board, three seats on the Chapel Hill Board of Aldermen in addition to the .posts of Mayor and Judge, and Mayor - Commissioners elections for Hillsborough and Carrlboro, too. Cates on his two lots at 158 and 160 E. Rosemary fit. immediately behind the main downtown business block. As drawn by City Planning and Architectural Associates, above, the building would have elevators and utility areas at the right, and offices in the main section of the 60,000 square feet of floor sfmce. Two rooming houses pn the lots are currently being demolished and construc tion will begin immediately when the site is cleared, Cates said. Completion is sched uled by Jan. 1, 1968.
