After much delay, and after being re tarded Considerably longer than was anti cipated at the coramehcemen| of the un dertaking, we have succeeded, at length, in presenting to our patrons the first num ber of the Christian Sun. $ When the pe cuniary embarrassments of the country, and the perplexing circumstances result ing therefrom, are taken into considera tion, it will not be a matter of surprise to any, that it has not made its appearance at an earlier date. The place of publica tion the present year is Hiilsborongf£ Or ange county, N. C. It will be pu|gished, during die year, on the first of each month successively, commencing with this num ber. The first intention, was to have pub lished it in news-paper form, and which was consequently inserted in the'prospec tus; but upon more mature deliberation, and at the particular suggestions of'many riends, it was thought most advisable to it in its prcsdiit shape, as being the V most convenient for general use, and as be ' better aj|pted for preservation. We design making the Bible a real standard; not one merely in name, but one m deed and in truth; and shall endeavour to bring our minds impli citly to submit to its holy dictates in all things pertaining to hope In discharging our duties ; ble though they may be, w< enat intelligence, forbearance, and Christian cha rity. We design not to enter the arena of partizan strife and sectarian conflict. It shall be our purpose to seek diligently af ter Divine truth, and wheresoever she may be found to embrace her with affection and cordiality.
