WINSTON-SALEM, N. C., FRIDAY, AUGUST 3, 1906. No. 30 Box Mountain in Rebellion. Some years ago an effort was made to kave that portion of Stokes County this side of Town Fork Creek annexed to Forsyth County, hut it failed. The citi zens of Box Mountain are now formulating a plan by which they hope to have all that section of County from Buffalo Wallow on to Town Fork annexed to Stokes County. They do 'this be cause there appears to be no effort made to even work the roads in that section. Taxation without representation is their battle cry, and wTe are with them if the bosses fail to do about in a lively and substantial manner. Felt it In Their Bones. Salisbury, July 31. A strange occurence, which took place in the vicinity of Barber's Junction on the night of July 13, when Mr. Isaac Lyerly and three mem bers of his family were murder ed, is vouched for by neighbors residing in that section who state that it was a noticeable fact that the dogs in various directions set up a persistent howl which was continued throughout the night. The cause of the unusual howl ing of the dogs has not been ac counted for. Stewart Bros, have at last fin ished their new lodge out on Willowglade. Smalleso of Triplets. Charles piers, who lives at 166 Hamburg rvenue Brooklyn who presented by his wife late on Monday .'night '-with three of the tiniest bits of hu manity that have been born in this city. The triplets weighed just 42 ounces and they are so small that Mr. Spier, the father, at once commun ieated with Dr. S. Fischcll the director of the Dreamland incu bators and the children are now thriving there. There is a boy and two girls and they have been named Wil liam, Madeline and Gertrude. These three make Mr. Spier's progeny number nine. The other children were all born under normal conditions and are in the best of health. Mrs. Theresa Rainer, a midwife at tended the infants until Dr. Fis chell took them to the incuba tors. They were wrapped in cotton, ank hurried to Coney Is land as fast as possible. The three new Americans if placed side by side could easily find room in a No. 7 hat. In size each compares favorably with a featherless squab. The heads of the children are not much larger than an ordinary gold watch and their fingers are about the width of a tooth pick. Standing erect they would look like pigmies along side a quart milk bottle. N. Y, Sun. It may be a little late in the seaoson for fish stories, but here is one from an exchange that is fully up to the best of the earlier season. Near Whitehaven, Pa., the story goes, a Leigh valley con ductor hooked a catfish which he could not land. He was about to give up in despair when anoth er fisherman offered to wade the stream and spear the fish. To his surprise the fisherman found his line entering the bunghole of beer keg. The keg was dragged ashore and found to contain a 4 pound catfish, which had grown too large to pass through the bunghole. Now and Forty Years Ago. The Mt. Airy Leader notes that the N. C. Granite Corpora tion at that place has just com pleted their part of National Museum at Washington, D. C, for which they recieved $130,000 and have taken a $100,000 contract for a church in New Jersey, besides smaller orders too numerous to mention. And just where this great amount of granite is being unearthed we hunted rabbits on many occa sions, 40 years ago. We also looked with wonder upon Eng and Ching the Siamese Twins,, who lived near Mt. Airy, and saw our first Chinaman in the person of Hazec, an almond eye bo trorn the celestial empire, who was brought from China by Itev. Mr. Wood, a returned mis sionary. Republican.
