C, Jan. 9 1906 THE CLANSMAN IN NEW Y0R "The Clansman" made its appear ance in rse York last night to a crowded house. The much -talked -of play was applauded throughout and calls men made for the author, Mr. Dixon, who appearing said: "My profession for 20 years has been public speaking and if there is one thing that tires me it is the sound of my own voice. I've a notion that it has tired other people, too People say 'The Clansman' has been a suc cess in the South. You have demon strated tonight that there is no North, there is no South. We are all one people- The simple fact is that joy, sorrow, peace and suffering are all uni versal and belong to the human heart everywhere." Service it St James Sunday of Un usual Interest First Anniversary of Rev. J. E. Sneak' Pastorate. One ear ago Rev. J E Shenk came to Concord at pastor of St. James Lutheran church. On Sunday morn ing services commemorative of this first anniversary were held, at which time a review of the year's work was given and specially prepared exercises held. The music for the occasion had been carefully arranged, embracing several compositions by Miss Ida Blume, the choir being assisted by Prof. Richard son, of Charlotte, and Miss Jannie Patterson. The result of the first year's pastor ate is a matter in which not only St Fames will rejoice, but the entire city, for the year has been most encouraging and full of accomplishments.
