Vacancies in Offices to Be Filled This Year Several of the County Officers Will Not Stand tor Re-Election. Perhaps one of the most interesting announcements in the political field is that Cleric of the Court John M Cook, will not be a candidate for re election. Mr. Cook has held the office for ten yearsj eight as clerk and two as deputy under the late clerk Mr. James C Gibson. He has rilled the office with great satisfaction, and his determina tion not to ask for another election is disappointing to many friends. Mr. Cook reached this decision some time ago, and will accept a very prominent business offer. So far no one has offered for the nomination. Of the present officers Mr. Cook is not the only one who will retires County Treasurer C W Swink will also not be a candidate, nor will Reg ister Johnson, two faithful and efficient officials for a number of years State Senator Oddl's friends wil. insist on his return to the senate, and, so far, there is not another candidate for the senate, and Mr. Udell's friendl are satisfied that he will be the nomi nee. For the House Mr Stickley is urged by some of his friends. Mr. George Ritchie is also frequently mentioned as a suitable candidate for legislative honors. The matter of county commission ers is one of much importance and sev eral names have been suggested. No doubt several of the present board will be renominated. For chairman we have heard the names of W L Morris, W W Flowe, D B Coltrane, J P Al lison and H L Parks, mentioned. The commissioner's office is one in which much interest is felt, and the chair manship it being discussed a good deal. Messrs L M Morrison, D R Harry and John W Morris are also heard in connection with a nomination for the new board. Chairman Hartsell will call his com mittee together on Saturday the 4th to . fix a date for the primaries and conven tion. Following this call political mat ters will begin to warm up Poor Orphan a Rich Heiress. Pittsburg, July 28 The will of Mr Elizabeth Burns, widow of William Burns, former traction mag nate of Pittsburg, was filed here today for probate. It disposes of an estate Valued at several millions. The last place of residence of Mrs Burns was the Hotel Majestic, New York. To the adopted daughter, Cora Burns Pbclan, wife of Alexis Phclan, of this city, is given the prop erty known as "The Pines," at Round Island. N. Y To each of her four grandchildren is given $25,000, and there are a number of minor bequests ia addition to money for Masses, after which the remainder of the estate is given to Mr Phelan. , , The latter was a poor orphan when the Burns family adopted her. Addicks Ousts A Jlec. Wilmington, Del., Jujy 28. J Ed ward Addicks sprang political sur prise this afternoon that has complica ted Republican politics in Delaware. At a special meeting of the Union Republican State Committee Senator Allee was ousted as Chairman and expelled from the organization, an Addicts was elected cnairman. Kep resentative Murray was appointed to the vacancy created by Allee's alleged expulsion. Peter P Alrich of Glasgow was also expelled, and Thomas K Horn of Miudleton was chosen to succeed him. A resolution was adopted rescinding the recent action of the committee empowering Allee to negotiate with Chairman L Heisler Ball of the Du pont Republicans. Addicks was di rected to issue a call for a Union Re publican State convention at Dover on August 28. The followers of Ad dicks declare that two State conventions must be held and that the candidates will be divided- Senator Allee and his friends say the meeting today was illegal, the chair man not having issued the call.
