It does one good, all over, to have friends, and when friend after friend comes to see me to assure support and co-operation in the contest for the nomination for county treasurer, friends whom, for lark of opportunity. I had not asked to support me, I feel the real appreciation of such friendship, and a desire to say so. During the past few weeks many people from every section of Cabarrus have volun tarily offered me their support, in every case being impelled by a real reason, ; an earnest desire to see me succeed J 1 H A letter from a resident of anothe county who feels an interest in Cabar rus, having been reared in the old county, says: "Hurrah for Hurley He deserves to win, and I believe Cabarrus Democrats will nominate him." Another Cabarrus boy, who now lives in a neighboring county, spent a few days in the county a few weeks ago and urged several of hi: friends to support Hurley. A friend in the county said. ' ' I h horse that pulls the plow, deserves the fodder-' 1 was for Hurley ac once." One of the most prominent newspa per men in North Carolina said some time ago: Your paper is making more for its opportunities than any other paper in the State." The Oreater Charlotte Chaataaaaa Charlotte, N. C., Aug, 27 Br engaging Prof. Charles Lane, the noted humorist, the director! of the Greater Charlotte Chautauqua have completed their programme for the September meeting. The completed programme contains some cf the best known speakers and humorists of the country. Among them Rev. Sam P. Jones, Dr. W. H. Sears, Hon. John Temple Graves, Senator Benjamin R. Tillman, Governor Robert B. Glenn and Rev. George R. Stuart. The musical part of the programme is, in every way, up to the Starndard of the rest of it. The Will A Peters Stock Com- piny, 'who have been playing nightly through all the hot summer days at Charlotte's summer playhouse, the Latta Park Auditorium, has agreed to close down during Chautauqua Week, which begins September ")ih.
