The party will be held in the Cooleemee School Auditorium beginning at 10:00 The party is for children under 13 years of age whose parents work at the Erwm Mills Plant Each child who attends will fruits, nuts, candies and popcorn. Fred Kirby, popular star of Rancho , and his horse " Calico , will entertain again this year for the children. A free drawing will also be held for a 24 piece Lionel Elec tric Train Set, valued at $47.45. This set is being given by the Cooleemee Drug Company and anyone can register for the draw ing at their store. Santa Clause will be at the the zifts. Admission to the party is free but each child attending must have a ticket. Tickets may be secured at the Union office, over the Cooleemee Cafe, from December 12th through December 20th. Harold Foster, Business Agent of Local 251, estimated that more than 850 children would ren attended last year. Lions Club Have Party For Blind The Cooleemee Lions Club held their annual Christmas Par ty for the Blind of the commun ity on Monday night at the Cool eemee School Cafeteria. Twenty tight members and their guests enjoyed a delicious menu of tur key with all the trimmings, veg etables, salads, fruit cake and coffee. Rev. Jim Bearss was in charge of the program for the evening. The group sang Chris tmas Carols and talked inform ally. Invited guests for the even ing were Mrs. Sallie Branson ac companied by Mrs. Doris Mc- Daniel, Mrs. Evan Gregory ac companied by Mr. Gregory, Lon nie Brown accompanied by Clint Brown, and George Click accom panied by Mrs. Click. Annual Pool Tournament The Annual Pool Tourna ment will begin on Monday, January 7, and those who wish to enter are requested to sign up as soon as possible so the schedule can be drawn up In time. They will play home games next Tuesday and Wednesday nights against Mills Home and Winecoff. John IV. Durham John Wesley Durham, 66 of .Vlocksville, Route 4, died un expectedly at his home at 8 a. m. Wednesday. He was born Sept. 16, 1890, in Wilkes County, a son ot She.rman and Alice Lyons Dur ham. He was a retired textile worker and farmer. Surviving are his wife: eight sons, Sidney Durham of Fort Bragg, Otis Durham of Mocks- vine, Route 3, Edward Durham, Dwight, Manuel, Floyd, Gra ham and Harold Durnam all of Mocksville Route 4; three dau ghters, Mrs. Dewey Foster of Cooleemee, Mrs. G. A. Spry of Advance and Miss Linda Dur ham of the home; 24 grand children; on great - grand child; one. brother, Thomas Durham of Traphill. Funeral services will be con ducted at North Cooleemee Bap tist Church at 3 p. m. Friday by the Rev. Lloyd Walters, and the Rev. Harold Parker. Burial will be. in Jerusalem Cemetery. Nephews were pall bearers. Frances Snow Circle Meets The Frances Snow Circle of the First Baptist Church held their regular monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. Luther King, Jr. Miss Lorena Nail. Chairman of the Circle, presided at the meeting. The program for the evening was directed by Mrs. King with Mrs. M. A. Carpenter, Mrs. Harold Wilson, Mrs. Chuck Brown. Mrs. C. E. Milholen, Jr. participating. Devotionals were given by Mrs. Carpenter, atter which the program was given in connection with the week of Prayer. At the close of the meet ing. the hostess served Snow balls, with candy canes and snowmen placed as favors on each plate. A lovely arrange ment of Christmas greenery was used on the coffee table. About ten members were present. Pocketbook Stolen Mrs. Doris McDaniel of 19 Main Street, Cooleemee, had the misfortune to have her pocket book containing $65.00 in cash stolen sometime Wednesday. Mrs. McDaniel left the pocket book on the trunk in the living room and first missed it Wed nesday afternoon. The pocket- book was black patent trimmed with nylon mesh and was of the box type with handles. A bil'- fold containing important papers, a small bag containing about ten pairs of earrings, and a bottle of medicine were in the bag also Mrs. McDaniel will appreciate any information in helping her recover her loss. She makes hei home with Mrs. Sallie Branson. Cooleemee Woman In Accident Mrs. Leon O'Neal of Coolee mee was treated for lacerat ions of the forehead and re leased from the Rowan Mem orial Hospital following a two- car colision in Salisbury Mon day morning. John Eicher of New York was widicted for failing to stop at a stop sign, according to po lice. The accident occured at corner of Ellis and Council street about 10:45 a. m. P.T.A. To Meet On Monday evening at 7:30 p. m. the regular meeting of the P. T. A. will be held at the Cooleemee School. First grades and the Junior Chorus under the direction . of Mis Mariola Crawford will give the program. Following the meeting, the Chorus will go caroling in the community. Thomas Wetmore Thomas Hubert Wetmore of Charlotte a native of Wood leaf, died Sunday at 5:25 at the Charlotte Memorial Hospital. Ruffin of Dur ham, president of Erwin Mills, Inc. Tuesday was inducted as an honorary member of the Duke University National Cou ncil. He is the husband of the former Miss Joesphine Kluttz of Salisbury and is well known in this area. The Duke University Nat ional Council is a representa tive body of alumni, alumnae, faculty and friends whose purpose is to promote the wel fare of Duke University.
