Post Presents Flag To Daveo High School Veterans of Foreign Wars Post( No. 4024 and its auxiliary pre sented a flag pole and an Ameri can flag to the new Davie Coun ty Consolidated High. School last! Sunday afternoon iri a -special program. Commander James Swicegood pf the local VFW Post, -served its master of. ceremonies. Prayer was offered by J. B. Cain, chair man of the Davie County Board of Education. Mrs. Pansy Koontz, president of the Auxiliary, introduced Betty Gordon, president of the 11th District Auxiliary, who gave a few brief remarks. Lester Martin, Jr., traced the history of the American flag and discussed what it would mean to the school. Mr. Swicegood and Mrs. Koontz presented the flag to Mackie Deadmon, president of the senior class, who accepted on behalf of the school. The flag was then raised to flying posi tion while the high school band played the national anthem Mackie Deadmon led the group in giving the pledge to the flag. Robertson, Davie Resident, ' Dies At Home Mrs. LiUie Savage Robert son of the Bixby Community, Advances Route 2, wife of Fil- more M. Robertson, died at 8 :40 a. m. Sunday at her bme. She had been in failing health for four years, and seriously ill two months. She was a daughter of B. J. and Lillie Jones Savage of Ger manton. She was married to Mr. Robertson on Nov. 19, 1947 Mrs. Robertson was a mem ber of Bixby Presbyterian Church. Surviving are the husband; a sister, Mrs. Harold Wilson of Germanton; three, brothers J. Hyde Savage of Winston Salem, Route 2 and B. J. and G. K. Savage of Germanton. Funeral services were con ducted at 2:30 p. m. Monday at the Bixby Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Paul Rich ards. Grose Of At 78 WHliamJasDe Groce, 78, a retired farmer, died early Sat urday morning at the Davie County Hospital after a serious illness of one day. He had been in declining health for some time. Mr. Groce was born in Yad kin County, Sept. 2, 1878, the son of Newton and Sara Warr en Groce. He was married to Sally Smith .He was a mem ber of the Macedonia Morav ian Church. Survivors are his wife: a brother, the Rev. James Groce of Mocksvilla Route 5; two half brothers.
