NOT RUN IN'O6
Though the 1966 Congress
ional Primary is several mon
ths away, a number of my fri
ends and constituents have in
quired about my intentions
with respect to running for a
sixth term. Having already
reached a decision in this con
nection, I feel that it should
be made known.

t have decided not to seek
re-election in IWNJ. At the end
of the 89th Coti«tess, in Dec
ember, 1968, I will have been
in public office for thirty
consecutive years and during
the same period have served
as Chairman of the Demo
cratic Party in my home
county.
The duties and require
ments of members-of Con
gress are becoming heavier
every year and the sessions
are becoming longer. In the
meantime, I am not getting
«*r younger. Speaking In
reneral terms, I might say
tllat this decision was prompt
ted by a combination of rea
sons, but it would be more
accurst* to simply say that I
ait) tired and want to get
back home where I can de
vote more time to the so-call
ed "little things" which take
on increased importance and
meaning to most people of
my, age.
Again, t want to thank all
of those throughout the dis
trict who have supported me
i in any or all of my campaigns
for Congress. I shall always
be grateful to them. Since
none of my campaigns have
engendered any appreciable
amount of ill will or bitter
ness, I can sincerely say al
so that I have but the kindest
of feelings for all those who
have opposed me from time
| to time in any or all of my
; campaigns.
