The Senior Citizens Club, which is sponsored by the Coo leemee Civic Club, has proven itself to be one of the finest and most active organizations in this section. It is made up of retired people of this area and under good leadership, has made a lot of progress and is very valuable to the com munity. They meet every other Monday at the Recrea tion Center, where the facili ties were recently enlarged to take care of the grow ins: at tendance of this club. Occa sionally a dinner is served to the club by members and wo men of the Civic Club, moun tain trips are enjoyed, and ministers from different chur ches are invited speaker*. The first president was J. G. Crawford, the second, Gordon Travis and third, C. W. Shep herd and presently M. H. Ri denhour. . Mr. Spry is a member and a deacon of the First Baptist Church. He was born at North CooJeemee, and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. 1L Broadway of Route 4, Mocksville, and is married to the former Jancie Fleming of China Grove They have three children. Mr. Broadway attended Coo js 1 member «T *oty Cross Sfetfittao ChurcS, the Mocfevilfe mtm Lodge, and a veteran of World War IL He is 41 years of age and is employed by the Coo leemee Super Market in the Meat Department Dr. Anlersoi Forcer Davie dentist Died Mocksville Dr. Robert .Lindexter Anderson, 97, of Mocksville and Fort Myers, Fla., who had practiced den tistry here dntil he was 90 dizd Jan. 20 at his winter home in Fort Myers. Dr. Anderson graduated from Vanderbilt University at Nashville, Tenn.. and pass ed the North Carolina Dental Board in 1890. He returned to his home at Calahan in Davie County and with the help of a carpenter, he fa shioned a dental chair on an old horse-drawn buggy. With this contraption, he visited Farmington, Fork. Smith Grove, Jerusalem and Coolee mee communities in Davie County, staying about a week in each place and serving patients. One of his stops in 1893 was in East Bend. While there, he attended a family in the Old Richmond section of Forsyth County. One of his patients was Miss Flora Reed. Within a short time, he made her his wife. She is his only survivor. He began his practice in Mocksville in 1892. but in 1896 a depression set in, and he and his wife moved to Brownsville, Tex. The climate did not agree with him and he returned to North Caro lina in 1901, settling in Ashe ville. The next year he came back to Mocksville. Dr. Anderson maintained his office on the square in Mocksville. He kept abreast of all modern equipment in the practice of dentistry with one exception. He could nev er operate anything but a drill powered by his foot. For the past two years he lias remained in Florida. Or. Anderson was bom in the Catahan section to A. A. and Fannie Foindexter An. derson. His father operated a store at Calahan, and one room was rented to a Dr. Howard, a "Mocksville dentist Howard's ' work interested young Anderson, and thi» M to his profession.
