A Day Of Fun
Planned Here
For The Fourth
The Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration,,
sponsored by the Cooleemee Jaycees will get un
derway tomorrow (Thursday) at 9 a.m. and con
tinue throughout the day.
In addition to the various contests, there will
be pony rides for the kiddies, military jets and
sky divers. A day of fan is planned for the entire
family. The concession stand will be open to serve
hot dogs, candy, various snacks and soft drinks.
A mini-tike, now on display in the Cooleemee Drug
Store, will be presented to the lucky ticket holder.
All proceeds wffl go to the Jaycee community
fund. Admission will he 25 cents for children and
SO cents for adults. Hie public is cordially invited
to make this celebration a big success.

Tucker Brothers See
Each Other First Time
In 12 Years In Vietnam
Jimmy Tucker of the U. S. Navy, now stationed:
in Japan, recently went on tour to Da Nang, Viet
nam, and would you believe, was lucky enough
to run into his brother, Donald, whom he had
not seen in over 12 years. Donald is in tht Army
and is stationed in Vietnam.
They are the sons of Mrs. R. C. Tucker, former
ly of Cooleemee, now living in Wooctteaf.
Mill Holiday Schedule
The Cooleemee Division of Burlington Industries will observe a
10-day vacation during the Fourth of July holiday, it was announced
this week by Manager C. O'Neal Walker. *
At the same time, Mr. Walker announced that the plant's some
1,300 employees received vacation bonus checks before the begin
ning of the vacation period. This is a part of Burlington's company
wide vacation bonus program.
Mr. Walker said the amount of each employee's vacation bonus
payment is determined by his length of service with the Company.
The Cooleemee Plant's Greige Mill wfll close at 10 p ML, July 3,
and will re-open at 6 ajn. on July IS. The Finishing Plant wfll close
at 6 a-m., July 4, and will resume operations at 10 p.m., July 14.
The Cooleemee Plant is a unit of the Erwin Mills apparel division
of Burlington lixfcistrics and manufactures high-quality fabric for
the appard market
Tax Rate

The Davie tax rate was in
creased 10 cents to $l.lO for the
coming fiscal year.
Commissioners approved a re
cord budget of $958,665 on
Monday. The budget includes six
and one-half cents for the new
school capital improvement fund.
School
Hearing
July 15
Davie residents are invited to
a public hearing on the proposed
$2,495,000 school bond election.
The hearing will be held July 15
at 10 a.m. at the county court
house in Mocksville.
The proposed bond vote is
tentatively scheduled for Sept.
