1 Hawaii Trip A Fraud
No Hulas For Harold
Harold Foster's not one of the luckiest men
in the world after all.
And, in fact, he may be one of the most unlucky.
Foster received word last week that he and
his wife had won a trip to Hawaii as a result
of a contest sponsored in an advertisement in TV
Guide.
This week he was informed that the owners
of Deluxe Vacationer Company of Hollywood, Calif.,
sponsors of the contest, had been arrested in Los
Angeles and charged with mail fraud. Thus, no
trip.
The owners, according to the Better Business
make short talks as the
featured speakers. They are
Billy Anderson, Brenda Sum
mers and Karen Cook.
The baccalaureate sermon
will be made Sunday, June 1,
at 8 p.m. in the school gym
nasium.
Meanwhile, many students
were recognized last week for
achievements in scholarship,
athletics and leadership at the
annual Awards Day program.
Honored were Sue CornaUer,
student of the year; Jane
Towell, citizenship; Eugene
Scott, Farmington Ruritan;
Johanne Ginther, John Philip,
Sousa award; Cindy Glascock,
most outstanding debator;
Tonia Ryan, Betty Crocker

Bureau, ran the contest and picked a large number
of entrants as "winners." They had to send 525
as a registration deposit for the 10-day stay in
a luxury hotel in order to get the round trip ticket.
Foster sent in his |25 check, but cancelled
it when he heard about the fraud involved.
Harold's not so worried about the |25 though.
What's got him in hot water is that he promised
his wife Mary the trip to Hawaii.
Will he or won't he have to cough up two
round trip tickets and a 10-day stay in Hawaii?
He's weighing the consequences both ways.
Promotion exercises for
eighth graders, who will
graduate to Davie High School
next year, will be held Thursday
at Cooleemee School at 1:30
p.m.
The Rev. W. R. Frost will
be the speaker. Principal V. G.
Prim will award certificates of
promotion. Rita Prevette will
welcome parents and guests.
Douglas McDaniel will offer the
invocation.
Students scheduled to be
graduated are:
