At Davie Library
"Cruising Around the World"
will be the topic of a talk
with color slides to be given
at the Davie County Public
Library Monday, July 28 at 7:30
p.m., by Dr. Henry C. Sprinkle.
Pictures of port cities and
interesting near-by sights in
Japan, Hong Kong, the
Phillipinee, Australia. South
Africa, Brazil, Dakar. Morocco',
Portugal, and Great Britain will
be included in the half-hour pro
gram.
The pictures to be shown are
those taken and collected by
Dr. and Mrs. Sprinkle when
they sailed on the "Five Con
tinents Adventure Cruise)'

Mr. Bowles joined Universal
C.I.T. as a customer service
representative in Hickory. Prior
to his current promotion, he
had been branch manager in
Hickory since 1962.
Mr. Bowles, a native of
Cooleemee, graduated from
Wingate Junior College and
Catawba College. He is married
to the former Sarah Underwood
of Wingate. They have three
children and live at 524 26th
St. N. W., Hickory.
. Since coming to Hickory,
N.C., Mr. Bowles has been an
active member of Penelope
Baptist Church, serving as
deacon, Sunday School
superintendent, and chairman
of the finance committee; he
is a member of Hickory Lodge
No. 343, and a council member
of the Bethel Methodist Church
scouting organization. He is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Thurman
Bowles of Cooleemee.
Donnie Benson
Is An All-Star
Donnie Benson, son of Mr.
and Mrs. 0. J. Benson of
Thriftwood Drive, Charlotte and
former residents of Cooleemee,
has recently been selected as
a member of the Ttjomasboro
Pony League's all star team,
which will represent the league
in the district playoffs.
Donnie is the grandson of
Mrs. Bessie Nail of Route 4.
Lifesaving
Junior and Senior Hfe saving
courses will be held at the
Recreation Center Swimming
Pool beginning Monday, July
21 at 6:30 p.m. under the in
struction of Fred Pierce.

Ronald Spry Is
On Field Duty
ROTC Training
Ronald C. Spry, son of Mr.
and Mrs. James F. Spry of
Center Extension, Cooleemee, is
participating in a U.S. Air
Force Reserve Officers
Training Corps (AFROTC) field
training encampment at
Charleston AFB, S. C.
During the encampment,
i cadets become familiar with the
life and activities of Air Force
bases and can examine career
opportunities in which they
might wish to serve as officers.
Other highlights include
survival training, aircraft and
aircrew indoctrination, small
arms training and visits to
ether Air Force bases.
Cadet Spry, a 1966 graduate
of Davie County High School,
b a member of the AFROTC
unit at North Carolina State
University at Raleigh. His wife,
Carolyn, is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. James A. Foster of
Rt. 4, Mockavile.
