surgery at a hospital in

weeks ago. She is improving

COOLEEMEE - Lewis
Franklin Williams, 74, of
Cooleemee, died Saturday
morning in Davie County
Hospital.
A native of Davie County, he
was a son of the late Wesley and
Julia Baker Williams. He was a
retired textile employe and a
veteran of World War One.
. Survivors include an adopted
son, Billy Clifton Williams of
Kansas City, Mo.; five sisters,
Mrs. Frances Massengale of
Winston-Salem, Mrs Elva
Smith of Concord, Mrs. Joe
Miller of Salsibury, Mrs. Gladys
Williams and Mrs Lonnie
O'Neal of Cooleemee; two
brothers, Joe Williams of
Salisbury and Robert Williams
of Kannapolis.
Miss Gillean
Of Woodleaf
Miss Thelma Lorena Gillean
of Woodleaf, died at 1:15 p.m.
Saturday at Davie County
Hospital in Mocksville. She had
been in declining health for
several months and seriously ill
for two months.
A native of Rowan County,
she was born Aug. 30, 1904 to
Mrs. Troy Wetmore Gillean and
the late Chalmers Harlan

HOFFMAN and family of Ft.
Lauderdale, Fla. spent last
week with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Paul Hoffman of Duke
Street. Their son, Reed, who
underwent surgery while here,
will remain with his
grandparents for a couple of

the weekend on a fishing trip
at Cape Hatter as. Raymond
reported the fishing was very
poor and according to various
reports on coastal fishing, thi«
was due to the extremely hot
weather.

years at Rowan Memorial
Hospital as nursing supervisor
in the operation room, and was
then employed at Erwin Mills in
Cooleemee. Before her illness,
she was associated with Davie
County Hospital.
She was a member of Unity
Presbyterian Church, the
Nurses Association and the
Woodleaf Garden Club.
She is survived by her
mother, of the home, two
brothers, Kenneth H. Gillean
of Woodleaf and Hayden W
Gillean of Statesville Road,
Salisbury; a sister, Mrs Helen
Troy Brown of Route 4,
Salisbury.
William E. Call,
77, Mocksville
MOCKSVILLE William
Edgar Call, 77, of Avon Street,
Mocksville, died at his home
Sunday morning.
A retired employe of the
Hoover Chair Company, he was
a son of the late Thomas and
Alice Call.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs Annie Jarvis Call; two
daughters, Mrs. Don
Fluckhouser of Council Bluff,
lowa, and Mrs. Ma this Miller
of Henderson; a son, Harry Lee
Call of Mocksville; a brother,

Boger Rattledge, 72, of 441
Maple Ave. died today at 9
a.m. at her home.
She was born Oct. 4, 1896,
in Davie County, the daughter
of Robert L. and Minnie Sum
mers Boger. She was a retired
school teacher and a member
of Union Chapel United
Methodist Church.
She is survived by her hus
band, Latta B. Rattledge; two
sisters, Mrs. Florence Latham
of Winston-Salem and Mrs.
Agnus Hunter of Rt. 2,
Mocksville; and a brother, Guy
Boger of Winston-Salem.
Mrs. Broadway,
81, Of Advance
MOCKSVILLE Mrs. Annie
Orrell Broadway, 81, of Rt. 2,
Advance, died Friday at 3:20
p.m. at the Davie County
Hospital.
She was born May 6, 1888,
in Davie County, the daughter
of the late B. C. and Angle
Williams Orrell. Her husband,
Charlie B. Broadway, died in
1935.
She was a member of
Elberton Methodist Church. A
sister, Mrs. B. L. Koontz of
Rt. 4. Lexington, survive*.

Senior, Citizens Will Hold
Swap Shop At Next Meeting
Tbe Senior Citizens welcomed
three new members to the dub
at their regular meeting Moo
day. There were 60 members
and five visitors present.
Almost inspiring message was
presented to the group by Mr,
J. F. Jarvis. He read from
St. John, 14th chapter end his
message was on God speaks
to the old. young rich and poor.'
The Lords Prayer was prayed
in unison.
It was reported that Mrs.
Bettie Milbolen had returned
home from Baptist Hospital and
Mr. Heithman Byerly entered
Forsyth Memorial Hospital
Monday.
The members were reminded
to get busy making something
for the dub to enter in the
Dixie Classic Fair.
The next meeting will feature
a "Swap Shop" program. All
members willing to swap a
horse collar, dog collar, dog,
cat, parakeet, turtle, fish, any
kind of jewelry, antique,
vegetables or anything,
regardless of what it may be,
bring it along and swap it to
someone for something they
may have.
Mrs. Betty Murphy, program
director, had the group hold
a TV commercial contest. The
ladies won which proved they
watch more television than the
men.
