Congressmen Gilmer D. Mizell, Representative of the Fifth Congressional District, will deliver the annual Masonic Picnic address at noon Thurs day, August 14. This will be the 89th Annual Masonic Picnic for Davie County. The planned program for that day is expectea to draw a large crowd into the historic grounds to carry on the tradition of the second Thursday in August set many years ago when the 63rd. William Dingus Named New Methodist Minister Here Cooleemee United Methodist Church has it's second minister within a months time due to the unfortunate death of a minister in High Point. Former pastor, Rev. Gary Brown, was appointed to fill the vacancy in High Point. Rev. William Dingus, the newly appointed minister, held his first service at the Cooleemee United Methodist Church on Sunday. Rev. Dingus, a native of Kingsport, Tennessee, is a graduate of Boones Creek High School. He received his A.B. Degree at Bob Jones Universi ty, Greenville, South Carolina in 1957 and his B. D. Degree at Bob Jones Theological Seminary in 1960. He has also completed four summer sessions at Duke Divinity Mizell Will Speak At Masonic Picnic event originated as a means of providing funds for the Oxford Orphanage. Proceeds from this annual event go to this orphanage. The R. C. Lee Riding Devices, long a feature of this annual event, will operate each night during the week of the picnic, along with other midway at tractions. C. Martin and Mr. Anderson will serve as assitant chairmen along with Richard Brock and T. F. Cornatzer, Masters of the Farmington and Advance Masonic Lodges respectively. Mr. Hendricks, assisted by these men and various com mittee members, has lined up one of the greatest events in the long and colorful history School. His first appointment came in 1961 to the Farmer Methodist Charge in the Thomasville District where he served two years. From there he was sent to Grace-New Union Charge of the High Point District for a three year term. He was appointed to Franklin ville United Methodist Church, Franklinville, N. C. in 1966. He was scheduled to continue his pastorate until June, 1970 prior to begin reappointed to Cooleemee. He is married to the former Barbara Ann Hightower of At tapulgus, Georgia and is the father of one child, a son, William Derek, age 4. He and his family have moved into the church parsonage located in Edgewood on Highway 801. of the Mocksville Masonic Pic nic. George Martin, program chairman, has lined up a pro gram that includes the Davie County High School Band and the Oxford Orphanage Glee Club. The program is to be held under the arbor and is scheduled to get underway at 11:30 a.m. The afternoon and evening program will feature music by Miss Mocksville Pageant Saturday MOCKSVILLE - Eight young women will compete for the "Miss Mocksville" title at next Saturday's Jaycee spon sored pageant. The annual event is schedule at 8 p.m. in the Mocksville School auditorium. Contestants include Lanette Barney, Paula Walker, Susie Hendrix, Susan Hencrix, Cindy Glasscock, Lynn Owens, Tonia Ryan and Betty Long. Ty Boyd, one of the WBTV's" personalities, will be master of ceremonies. Usherettes, all rising seniors at Davie County High School, will include Betty Allen, Betty Ferebee, Katie Glascock, Elizabeth Hall, Patricia Hen dricks, Marsha Lakey, Brenda Shore, Rhonda Webb, and Darlene Whitaker. Biographical sketches of each of the contestants include: Carol Lanette Barney, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Barney of Route 3, Mocksville, and a 1969 graduate of Davie High School. She plans to attend Davie Hospital School of Nursing at Statesville and to become a registered nurse. Her hobbies are playing the piano, reading and sewing. Her talent will be a piano solo. Paula Louise Walker, 18, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Walker of Route 2, Mocksville. She graduated from Davie County High School in 1969. She plans to attend Ap palachian State University to become a primary grade teacher. Her hobbies are singing, dancing and painting. She also enjoys playing softball. Paula will dance for her talent presenation. Wanda Grey (Susie) Hendrix, 17, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Hendrix of Route 3, Mocksville, and is a 1969 graduate of Davie County High School. She plans to attend Weaver Airline School in Kansas City, Mo., to study to become an airline stewardess. Her hobbies are dancing and singing, and for her talent presenation she will give a modern jazz dance. Susan Denise Hendrix, 17, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hendrix of Route 2, Advance. A 1969 graduate of Davie County High School, she plans to attend Rowan Memorial Hospital School of radia technology. She enjoys all types of sports, especially basketball and swimming. Her talent will be baton twirling. Cynthia Jane Glascock, 18, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. Clyde Glascock of Route 1, Mocksville, and is a 1969 graduate of Davie County High School. She plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro this fall to study in some medical-related field. Her hobbies are tennis, swimming, bowling and knit- Clyde Lakey and his String Band. The famed picnic dinner will be spread under the dinner arbor immediately following the conclusion of the morning pro gram. Last year an estimated 10,000 persons paid admission into the picnic grounds during the day and evening sessions of the an nual event. Her hobbies are reading, music, movies, cooking and sewing. She will sing for her talent presentation. Tonia Sue Ryan, 18, is the daughter of Mrs. Mildred Ryan and the late James R. Ryan of Route 2, Advance. She too is a 1969 graduate of Davie County High. She will attend the University of North Carolina in Greensboro this fall where she plans to major in sociology.
