Wednesday, September 17,1969 63rd year no. 36 Schools To Continue Construction Slightly revised plans have enabled Davie County to go ahead with their proposed school construction program. Davie County School Superintendent said this week that by accepting a few alternates and substitutes through negotiation with the contractors enabled the construction costs to be brought more in line with what was originally anticipated. "I want to emphasize, however, that no structural changes were affected. Just the acceptance of some alternates and substitutes in non-critical areas", said Mr. Everidge. The revised bids on the construction projects total $1,155,000. This covers the construction of the new Fa rm ington-Smith Grove Elementary School, construction at the William R. Davie School and the utilities for Farmington- Smith Grove, William R. Davie and Shady Grove. Mr. Everidge pointed out that the Davie County Board of Education and the architects, on the basis of the construction bids on these projects, have adjusted their estimate for the remaining projects accordingly. It is estimated that the remaining projects will now total around $1,668,000. This 16 pages 10 cents includes the construction of a new Mocksville Elementary School with 24 classrooms; minor renovations and a new kitchen at the Mocksville Middle School; a 16-room addition at the Shady Grove School; and $200,000 to be spent on the Cooleemee Elementary School. Mr. Everidge said that the board of education has given letters of intent to the low bidders on the projects at Farmington-Smith Grove; William R. Davie, and the utilities at three schools. These were as follows: Hugh G. Strickland, Inc. of Winston-Salem, the general contract for the William R. Davie and Smith Grove - Farmington construction, and also the utilities for the two schools plus Shady Grove. Floyd S.
