young man of the year for
Mocksville and surrounding
area for the year 1969.
Any man, aged 21 through 35,
is eligible for nomination.
Nominees will be judged pri
marily in areas of community
service, church participation
and achievement in their cho
sen profession
Winner will be presented the
distinguished service award at
the annual Jaycees banquet on
Friday, Jan. 23.

Dr. Francis W. Slate
Is New Chief-Of-Staff
Dr. Francis Wesley Slate has been elected Chief-of-Staff
of the Davie County Hospital.
Dr. George Kimberly was named Vice-Chief-of-Staff and
Dr. Glenda Weber, secretary.
Dr. Slate opened his office in Mocksville in December of
I9SB and has been practicing as a specialist in general
surgery at the Davie County Hospital. He spent six years
specializing in surgery, most of the lime at New York
University, Washington University and the VA Hospital in
Lake City, Florida.
In 1962 he was certified by the American Board of
Surgery and became a fellow of the American College of
Surgeons in 1965, and the American College of Angiology
in 1965.
He also previously served as hospital chief-of-staff here
in 1965.
Dr. Slate is a member of the Davie County Board of
Commissioners and from 1960-1968 served as Davie
County Coroner.
Active in civic affairs, he has been a member of the
Mocksville Roatary Club since 1959. He served on the
board of directors of the Davie County Chapter of Red
Cross and is previous head of the Davie County Cancer
Society.
