Mocksville Rt. 1 has filed for the
Davie County Board of Com
missioners on the Democratic
ticket.
Mr. Blackwelder is a native
resident of Davie County and
has been active in all phases of
civic affairs.
He was a former member of
the Mocksville Jaycees and was
the recipient of the
Distinguished Service Award in
1962.
He was formerly manager of
B. C. Moore and Sons Depart
ment Store in Mocksville and
also formerly co-owner of the
Mocksville Department Store
He is now in the partnership of
the Sealtest Distributorship for
Davie County.
Mr. Blackwelder is an active
member of the Blaise Baptist
Church where he has served as
chairman of the board of
deacons and also adult Sunday
School teacher.

terms to be elected this year.
He is a graduate of Cooleemee
High School, attended Salisbury
Business School, completed a
two year on the job training
course for office management
through the Veterans Adminis
tration, veteran of the U.S.
Navy serving in World War 11.
He is presently Purchasing
Manager for Republic Foil, Inc.
He is a member of the Cool
eemee United Church and has
served as Chairman of the Offi
cial Board, a member of the
Cooleemee Lions Club, presi
dent of the Davie County Associ
ation for Retarded Children,
past president of the PTA, and a
member of the National Associ
ation Purchasing Management
and Virginia-Carolina Purchas
ing Association.
He is married to the former

the Davie County Board of
Education.
Mr. Jones filed for the 4-year
term, which is the unexpired
term of the late Claude Hicks.

Mr. Ijames filed for one of the
two six-year terms to be elected.

On Philippine Job
C. O'Neal Walker, of Meri

U. S. Ambassador in the Philip
pines, Henry Byroade. on his
project there as a volunteer
executive of the International
Executive Service Corps. Mr.
Walker was in the Philippines
from July 1969 to February 1970.

Manager of the Cooleemee Divi
sion of Erwin Mills, a com
ponent of Burlington Industries.

sion, Minister James Wilson,
Jr. and the new Director of the
U. S. AID Mission in the Philip
pines. Thomas Niblock. The In
ternational Executive Service
Corps receives an annual grant
from U. S. AID to fund that
portion of its budget which is not
contributed by sponsoring U.S.
corporations.
Cooleemee Meeting
Discusses Incorporation
The members of the Board of
Directors of the Cooleemee In
dustrial Development Associa
tion met Tuesday night at the
U Stop N Grill to discuss the
advantages and disadvantages of
Cooleemee becoming incorpor
ated.
The board agreed to call a
meeting of all members of the
Industrial Development Associa
tion on Thursday. March 19, at
which time they will present

He served two years as an
officer in the U. S. Army during
the Korean conflict and
received four battle stars,
combat infantry badge and the
Bronze Star Medal with "V"
device for heroism.
He worked for 2'£ years at the
St. Pauls College in Lawren
ceville, Virginia as cashier and
instructor.
Mr. Jones is a trustee of the
St. John's A. M. E. Zion Church.
He is married with three
