n Audrey Deadmon Is WCU Graduate Mrs. Audrey Wagner Dead mon of Cooieemee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Wagner of Cooieemee, and the wile rf Phil ip Atlas Deadmon, was gradu ated Sunday, June 7, from West ern Carolina University at the 81st annual WCU spring com mencement. Mrs. Deadmon received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. A 1966 graduate of Davie County High School, she has been active at WCU in student education associations, and was on the dean's list of honor stu dents in 1966. She recently com pleted student teaching in Ha zel wood, North Carolina. Alpha Delta Kappa Holds May Meeting The Alpha Delta Kappa So rority held its May meeting with Mrs. Ruth Short on Tuesday, May 96. The hostess furnished the group with several excellent recipe books and entertaining tips. Since this was the last meet ing of the school year, most of the business consisted of plans for the new year. Mrs. Short served refresh ments to: Helen Crenshaw, Ann Barnhardt, Mary Wall Sexton, Betty West, Nell Hayes, and Helen Everhart Senior Citizens News By MARY DUNCAN The local senior citizens club held their regular meeting on Monday, June 8, at the Recrea tion Center with 68 members and three visitors attending. President Fred Murphy, pre sided. Mr. Guss, personnel manager of the Burlington Industries plant here, led the devotionals. His scripture was taken from the first chapter of St John and the theme of his talk was "The Existence of a Real Living Christ." In the absence of Mrs. Sadie Steele, the sunshine report was given by Mrs. Beulah Spry. Get well cards were sent to six members on the dub's sick list Church Of God Rummage Sale The Church of God will spon sor a rummage sale on Satur day, June 13, at the church parsonage, beginning at 9 a.m. and will continue through the day. JERRY CALL af New York were the weekend guests af his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Call of Ephesus. Jerry, a genealogist with the Gemakgical Institute of America in New York City, accompanied a buyer to Brazil and has just returned from the two weeks trip. While there they also toured the mines in the Brazilian jungles. Jerry is also a co-owner of the Commercial Lapidaries Ltd. of Mocks ville. MR. AND MRS. DON FOS TER and sons of Holly Hill, Florida were the weekend guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Foster. H»ey returned home Monday, with the ex ceptions of their two older sons, Eddie and Wayne, who will remain here with their grand parents until early next month. MR AND MRS. ADAM JOR DAN and MRS. SALLY RIDEN HOUR attended the graduation exorcises of their grandson, Denny Jordan, in Travelers Rest S.C. last week. Denny, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Jordan, formerly of Cooieemee, was an honor student at Traveler's Rest High School. MRS. A. A. GIBBONS of New Fort News, Virginia is spending this week here visiting her two sisters, Mrs. Ed Carter and Mrs. Dewey Couch. MR. AND MRS. RAYMOND COUZIN of Salisbury were the Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Carter of Joyner Street. MR. AND MRS. JORDAN went to Anderson, S.C. on Satur day where they attended the graduation of their grand- Flowers were furnished by Mary Duncan. BETH FOSTER was transferred from Lowrance Hospital, Mooresvilk to Char lotte Memorial Hospital over the weekend. Mrs. Foster un derwent surgery three weeks ago and has spent most of this time as a patient at Lowrance. She is slightly improved. ME. AND MRS. WILSON WAGNER of Cooleemee and MR. AND MRS M. C. DEAD MON of Mocksville attended the graduation exercises of Mrs. Audrey Wagner Deadmon on Sunday at Western Carolina University. JOE PARKER remains seriously ill at Rowan Memorial Hospital after undergoing sur gery Friday. MR. ROY HELLARD of Watt Street is improving at Davie Hospital after undergoing sur gery last week. MISS PAT HEAD of Salis bury spent the weekend here with her grandmother, Mrs. Mabel Head of Watt Street. MR. MARGARET JORDAN left Saturday morning for Rich mond, Va. to visit Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Safril She also plans to visit Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Cog gins at their home in Charlottes ville before returning home in the next week or ten days. Mrs. Jordan was accompanied by Mrs. Adam Lyerly of Rockwell. MR. AND MRS. GUY BEANE of Lenoir visited their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Randall Beane and Lori, of Edgewood over the weekend. Presbyterian Bible School Picnic Friday Vacation Bible School is in progress at the Cooieemee Pres byterian Church this week. The school begins each evening at 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. and will contin ue through Friday. A picnic supper will be held at 6 p.m. Friday evening on the church lawn for all those attend- ing There will be a special Bible studv for the adult group, under the leadership of the new min ister, Rev. Ro6coe Brown Fish er. The Bible study will be very informal and will be held in the church Mance. Rev. Fisher's theme for the study is "The Revelation of God to Man." This period will also be used for discussion and for a question and answer period that should prove most interesting to the adult group. The Sunday worship services is held each week at 10 a.m. and Sunday School follows at 11:15 a.m. Weldon Huske Is Graduate Weldon Huske, son of Mr. and Mrs I. H. Huske of Cooleemee, was graduated from the Vir ginia Episcopal School, Lynch burg. Virginia on June 2. While there, be participated in many campus activities in cluding service on the All School Council and the Honor Com mittee. He received an award for "excellence in achievement and sensitivity to the study of modern politics and govern ment." Weldon was one of a group of V.E.S. students who served on the Niadison Street Project, co operating with the Lynchburg community by providing a tu toring service for young under privileged children of the city. He plans to enter the Univer sity of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in the fall. 5
