Seven Davie County Girls Enter
Miss Mocksville
Seven girls have entered the Miss Mocksville Beauty
Pageant. They are:
Edith Elizabeth Hall: Elizabeth, 17, is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Hall of Southwood toes in
Mocksville. She is a graduate of Davie County High
School and plans to attend Wake Forest University. In
high school, she was president of the Debate Club,
received the Outstanding Debator Award, in National
Honor Society, and was presented at the Sub-Deb Ball in
1970. She has had special training in piano, voice, and
dance. Her hostess is Mrs. Helen Gantt.
Lucy Darlene Whitaker: Darlene, 17, is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Whi taker, Rt. 2, Mocksville. She
is a graduate of Davie County High School and plans to
enter N. C. Baptist School of Nursing in the fall. In
school she was chief majorette, secretary of the Student
Council, a band member, officer in her class, Spanish
Club and Health Careers Club, 1970 Valentine Sweet
heart, March of Dimes Scholarship winner, presented
at the Sub-Deb Ball and was voted Most Popular by her
senior classmates. Darlene has had special training in
baton twirling and piano. Her Hostess is Mrs. Vivian
Cook.
Brenda Sue Shore: Brenda, 18, is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Henry Shore of Grey St. in Mocksville. She is a
graduate of Davie County High School. She plans to
enter Davis Hospital Nursing School in the fall. In high
school she was on the Yearbook and Newspaper staff,
Sec. of the Health Careers Club, a candy striper, was
voted as the senior superlative-Neatest, and was
presented at the Sub Deb Ball in 1970. She has had
special training in piano. Her Hostess is Mrs. Brenda
Collins.
Karen Lynn Jones: Karen, 18, is the (laughter of Mr.
Leon Jones of Duke St. in Mocksville. She is a graduate
of Davie County School in 1970, and plans to attend
U.N.C.-G. in the fall. In high sdiool she was on the
basketball team, Beta Club, Student Council officer,
class treasurer, F.T.A., Historian, Junior Civitan, Club
Pres., News Editor, on the Homecoming Court, National
Honor Society and commencement speaker. She has
had training in piano. Her hostess is Mrs. Mozelle
Thompson.
Katie Sue Glascock: Katie, 18, is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Glascock of Statesville Rd., in
Mocksville. She is a graduate of Davie County High
School and plans to enter Patricia Stevens Career
College and Finishing School this fall. She was a
nominee for the Governor's School of N.C. She has had
special training in dance, voice, piano, and dramatics.
Her Hostess is Mrs. Ann Wands.
Jackie Sue Mottinger: Jackie, 17, is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. Mottinger of Rt. 2, Mocksville.
She is a graduate of Davie County High School and
plans to enter airline school and train to bean airline
hostess. She also attended T. L. Haima High School in
Anderson S.C. awl was runner up in the Valentine
Sweetheart Contest. Her hostess is Mrs. Nancy Ful
bright.
Patricia JoHendrix: Patricia, 18, is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Hendrix Jr. of South wood Acres in
Mocksvilie. She is a graduate of Davie County High
School and plans to enter Catawba College this fall. In
high school she was drum majorette for two years, won
first and third place in the forensic contest held in Boone
and Lexington and was presented at the Sub-Deb Ball in
1970. She has had special training in dancing,
voice, piano, and baton. Her hostess is Mrs. Kathy
Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Buddy Alexander
Have Guests From Athens, Ga
MRS. HALENE BECK HURT
and daughter Karen of Athens,
Georgia and Scott Pittman of
Augusta, Georgia spent several
days last week visiting Mr. and
Mrs. Buddy Alexander and Mike
of Center Street.
MRS. O. H. HARTLEY of
Center Street was admitted to
Davie County Hospital last
Wednesday where she remains a
patient.
JOHNNY HEAD is
recuperating nicely after un
dergoing surgery at Forsyth
Memorial Hospital in Winston-
Salem.
MR. AND MRS. LAKE
RICHEY of Charlotte were the
Sunday guests of Mrs. Sadie
Steele of Route 4, and also of Mr.
and Mrs. Earl Deadmon.
MISS MOLLY WETMORE of
Woodleaf has returned to her
home after undergoing maior
surgery at Iredell Memorial
Hospital in Statesville, on
Monday, June 22.
MR. AND MRS. HUNTER
MILLER of Davie Street and
their son, Johnny Miller of
Wilmington, returned home
Saturday night from West
Virginia where they attended
the wedding of their elder son,
Jim Miller to Miss Ann Gerwig
on Saturday morning. John
returned to Wilmington Sunday
night.
MR. AND MRS. DELANO
McCULLOUGH and famUy have
recently moved to Route 2,
Mocksville from Greenville,
Tennessee. They are former
residents of Cooleemee.
MR. AND MRS. DAVID
OORRELL and Da via and Mr.
and Mrs. Jimmy Scott spent the
weekend at Myrtle Beach, S.C
MR AND MRS. DEWEY
OOUCH spent Sunday afternoon
in Asheboro visiting friends.
MR. AND MRS. JOHN
RUSSELL, Allen and Susan of
Greasy Corner spent the
weekend touring Nashville,
Tennessee. They took a bus tour
to the homes of Grand Ole Opry
stars, Farron Young, Hank
Williams, Sr., Red Foley, Pat
Boone, Webb Pierce, Brenda
Lee, Minnie Pearl, Eddie Arnold
and visited many interesting
places, such as Capitol's
recording studio. The Upper
Room, and Ernest Tubbs'
Record Shop. They personally
met the Willis Brothers, Guy,
Chuck, and Bob; Bobby Lord;
Hank Williams, Jr. and his
mother; and "cousin Jody" of
the Grand Ole Opry. Before
returning home they also toured
the Lost Sea in Sweetwater,
Tienn. and the home of a
notorious gambler.
MRS. ROY HOWARD has
moved from her home on 10
Ooss Street to Church Street in
Mocksvile. Mr. and Mrs. Ricky
Whitly purchased her houw on
Cross Street and will be living
there.
MR. AND MRS. HARRY
SPRY of Sweetgrass, Montana
are this weeks guests of his
mother, Mrs. Emma Rae Spry.

Station To Air
College Programs
A five-minute radio program
"How the Community Outage
System Evolved in North Caro
lina" was heard Monday at S
p.m. and Tuesday at t:10 am.
on Radio Station WDSL in
Mocksville.
The program was the first in a
series of weekly five-minute
programs to be heard on this
station during the next twelve
months.
Or. W. Dallas Herring, chair
man of the Stale Boardof Edu
cation was the speaker for the
first program. A series of inter
esting and informative pro
grams are planned for the year.
The programs are being spon
sored by the North Carolina
Department of Community Col
leges, and Davidson County
Oommimity College
Mr. Spry who is a Custom's
Inspector on the Canadian
Border, has hen in New York
far the past three months in
Custom's Inspector School
where he was an instoctor. They
plan to ran to Sweetgraas
following their visit here.
MR. AND Mrs." J. L.
SMITH were delegates of Davie
County attending the sth
District Democratic Convention
at FOrsyth County Court House
on Saturday, June 27. James G.
White, congressional candidate,
was guest speaker.
Mr. E. Qwyn McNeil, N. C.
highway commissioner, was
recognised for the good work he
has done on getting the unpaved
roads paved in the sth district.
There were approximately
100 persons from this district
who attended the convention.
Delegates will also sttend the
convention in Raleigh on July
14.
Mrs. Smith is the secretary
for the Davie County
Democrats.
