Davie Band
To March
In Salisbury
The Davie County High
School Band will participate in
the 1970 Holiday Caravan on
Wednesday, November 25, be
ginning at 4 p.m. in Spencer and
5 p.m. in Salisbury.
Patricia Hendrix, Miss
Mocksville and Teresa Lane
Brown, Davie Homecoming
Queen will ride in the parade.
There will also be a group of
local students, representing Sue
Bernhardt's Dance Studio.
From a meager beginning in
1952, the Holiday Caravan has
become the largest Jaycee
sponsored parade in the nation
and has enjoyed continued
growth, particularly in the area
of quality.
This year will be no exception,
as the parade line-up will in
clude more than 25 top bands
and marching units, over 50
floats, dozens of comical
clowns, funny cars and celebri
ties.
Miss USA will add beauty to
the parade along with state
queens from North Carolina,
South Carolina, Georgia, Vir
ginia, various festival queens
and local queens from all across
the state.
Anderson Named
Active Democratic
Party President
Jerry Anderson of Route 1
Mocksville has been named the
new active Davie Democrat
club president to fill the vacan
cy created by the resignation of
Dale Brown. Mr. Brown is now
the new chairman of the Davie
Democratic executive com
mittee.
Members of the Active Davie
Deems Club met on Monday
night at the Hickory Hill Club
House for a charcoal steak din
ner and to make plans for activ
ities in all the precincts within
the county during the next two
years.
Mr. Anderson lives on Route 1
Mocksville and is married to the
former Diane Smith of Mocks
ville. They have two children, a
boy and girl. He is owner and
operator of the Anderson Pulp
Wood Co. He is also president of
the North Davie Ruritan Club
and is a deacon and Sunday
school teacher at Sandy Springs
Baptist Church where the fami
ly has their membership.

Ilianksgiving to a very festive occasion for everyone, except maybe for the turkeys, but

Wins 3 Turkeys, Ham
The local Jaycees held one of
their most successful turkey,
ham shoots Saturday at the
Cooleemee Ballpark. There
were 38 matches with the win
ners having their choice of a
country ham or a turkey.
Jack Brown was the big win
ner of the day with three tur
keys and a ham.

has completed basic training at
Lackland AFB, Tex.
He has
been assigned to Keesler AFB,
Miss., for training in the admin
istrative field Airman Latham,
a 1966 graduate of Davie County
High School, received his B. S.
degree in business adminis
tration in 1970 from Western
Carolina University.
His wife is
the former Chinera Mashburn
of Cullowhee, N.C.

To Raffle Shotgun
On Dec. 19
The local Jaycees and
members of the American
Legion Post 54 are selling raffle
tickets on a Model 1100
Remington Automatic, 12 gauge
shotgun to be given away on
December 19, at the turkey
shoot.
Tickets may be purchased for
a $1 donation to the Cooleemee
Recreation Commission, from
any Jaycee or legionaire. You
do not have to be present to win.

The Davie County Schools will
be closed Thursday and Friday
in observance of the
Thanksgiving Holidays. Classes
will resume on Monday.
