At a meeting of the Pitt county teachers association in Creen vllle Saturday, Supt., H. H- Mc Lean was selected by that" body as chairman of the committee to purchase the books and put in operation the Ragsdale memo rial library for use of the teach ers of the county. ^Between seventy-five and a hundred dol lars were raised at the meeting and the committee expects to secure additional funds in the near future. The readiness with which this amount was secured attests the high esteem in which Supt. Ragsdale was held by those who labored under him. Eagles, wenUo Green ville Saturday to attend the Teacher*' meeting. Rev. J. E. Kirk, pa&or of the Baptist church here; held his regular sen-ices Monday night, March 8th. There was a large crowd out and his hi" ' .inter eiling sermon was et.joyed by oil who attended. Mccrs. G. W. Jefferson and Bros, had the misfortune of los ing a tenant house by fire Thurs day March 4th, situated one-half milee;t& of here, occupied" by Goodman Moore, a negro. The fire Plaited about 2 o'clock und the house was consumed in a very short while. The occu pants had l^ft home, leaving three very Email children there. There was some cotton in the house and it was set afire by one of the children. Had it not been for the heroic ahd daring . work of Mr. and Mrs. K. A. Fountain, there is no doubt but that the children and all the household goods Vvould have been burned, but they were returning from Mr. W. S. Newton's near Falk land, and were the firil to arrive at the 6cene of the fire. Mr. and . Mrs. Fountain rushed in and rescued the children and then carried out all the furnituxe pos sible before tbe house burned down. The losses were S250 insurance $10. Dr. and Mrs. K. B. Bcasley re turned home Saturday from Coleraine, where lhey were un expectedly called by a telegram to 20 Wednesday to the bedside of Dr. licasley's mother, who was seriously ill.
