County.
Mrs. Johnson and the six child
ren did a good job of running
the farm while Mr. Johnson was
Campaigning during the early
summer weeks. It was as a re*
snit of this that the report be
came current that Mis. Johnson
was not going to Washington if
her husband was elected.
Senator Magnus Johnson is
happy that his wife is going with
him. He quite frankly admits
that she is his boss. Whether be
remains in public life after serv
| ing his short term depends. alto
gether, he says, upon what she
decides.
The 140 acre Johnson Farm if
a typical Minnesota home, equip
ed wit^ modern machinery; forty
head Qf cattle, twenty-four of
which are milk oows; forty Dur
oco and Chester White hogs; 300
chickens and eight horses. ?v
ery member of the family is kept
busy running the place, Mrs.
Johnson milking seven cows at
least once a day.
Magnus Johnson was born in
Sweeden and came to America
an immigrant in 1391. Mrs. John
son, however, is a typical gray
haired, pleasant-faced and ideal
American mother, who traces
her descent back to General Is
rael Putnam on her mother's
side.

Mrs. juuubuu is vciy pvsiurc
that the nation is going to be
surprised if it thinks that Senat-,
ors Brookeart and LaFollette
are going to lead her fighting
husband around in their legisla
tive ranks. "He has a mind and
ideals of his own." she says.
The JohDSon home loves
books. Every member of the
family is a great reader.
Lillian, the oldest girl of the
family, will keep the house go
ing when her mother and father
go to Washington. Victor, 21;
Francis, 19, and Magnus, Jr., 14,
will run the farm.
"No doubt, I will have a very
pleasant time in Washington,"
said Mrs. Johnson, "That is, as
pleasant a time as any mother
could be expected to have when
her family is divided, as our own
will be, for the first lime. Yes, I
am in favor of women in politics
but 1 have never bad time for it.
Six children and a busy life on
the farm, was all I was able to
haDdle in the last thirty years."
These are the things Magnus
Johnson says he will favor and
oppose at Washington:
Favor fixed prices of grain,
making possible fixed profit to
growers.
j ? i t :
ravor uiversmeu iuiiluuk.
Favor government ownership
, public utilities.
Favor soldfers' bonus; recogni
lion of Russia; wage increase of
all railroad men; woman suffer
, age; retention of political parties;
I tteticttial budget; brotherly IpVf
amongst nations, classes and in

' citizens; unanimous decision *in
