^ ANNUAL COUNCIL EPISCOPAL CHURCH : HELD IN NEW BERN DELEGATES FROM LOCAL CHURCH ATTEND. East Carolina Bishop Stands Squarely on True Fundamen tals of Christianity in His An nual Address. Meetings of Council held in Christ Church. ? The 41st annul Council of the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina * met in Christ church, New Bern, Tuesday morning at ten o'clock for the purpose of organising. The Rt. Rev. Thomas C. Darst, D. D., Bishop of East Carolina, opened the first session with his annual address, in whieh he reaffirmed his own faith in the integrity of the creeds of the church in safe-guarding the essential truth of the divinity of Jesus Christ, and set at rest differing opinions as to the attitude that the Diocese of East Carolina would take when he stated that he had no apologies to make for being one of the Bishops who recently sent out a pastoral letter emphasizing the fact that the Epis copal church stood four square on the true fundamentals of Chnsuamty^^ Rev. Inspiring and splendid addresses were made daring the other sessions, among which* was that of Rev. W. H. Wheeler, superintendent of Thompson orphanage; Dr. W. W. Way, who set "forth the work at St. Marys; Rev. Mr. Lawrence, who spoke of the work at Chapel HID, sad George B. J quence and power, appealed to church men to continue their support of the program presented. 4 The Council accepted the invitation given by St. Mary's church in Kinston to meet there next year. The reception and entertainment of the delegates and visitors measured up to the high standard of hospitality as always evideimpd by New Bern folk. Enjoyable auto rides were taken in which noted places of inter est were pointed out by the hosts who are justly proud of their historical city. The historic communion sendee pre sented to the church at New Bern in 1758 by King George II, and which still maintains its beauty and mag nificence, brought forth many excla i mations of admiration from the visi | tors. .. E. Austin, chairman; Mr. H. A Whiee, vice-chairman; Miss Jane Moxiey, secretary', and Mr. A. B.
