L- Shackleford was hostess to the Magazine club on "Wednesday afternoon. The living room and hall were tastefully decorated with yellow cor eopsis and upon the arrival of the quests fruit punch was served by Miss Tabitha DeVisconti from a crystal bowl banked with these bright flow ers. In the regular business session Miss DeVisconti gave a report on some welfare work which this club has recently attempted, and Mrs. W. M. Willis, chairman of the program committee, recommended three cours-' es of story which would be helpful to this body next fall. Upon a mo tion and vote the club decided to take up a supplementary course on south ern literature. The interesting program on Pitt county consisted of two splendid pa pers: The first, 'Our Own Neighbor hood,1* by Mrs. W. G, Sheppard, gave the geographical features, flora and fauna, population and activities of Farmville; the second, "Beginning, Growth and Development of Pitt County," by Mrs. W. M. Willis told of the organization, boundaries, ori gin of name, the first county govern ment, industrial growth and other im portant facts pertaining to the coun ty. This meeting completed the studies m the history , of North Caroling and it seemed quite appropriate for the ntttfffcegrs to "ng "Carolina.- Carolina, /inning as a reward for her excellent memory, a hand-pain ed picture with r'*the inspiring toast to the Land of the Long Leaf Pine. Miss Perkins gra ciously presented this to Miss?Mary 1 Jerome, a visitor at this meeting as a souvenir to back with her to Geor gia. Delicious strawberry ice' cream and cake were served during the social hour. _ Special guests at this meeting were: Mesdames R. A. Fields, A. C. Monk, B. O. Turnage, J. W. Heyes, J. T. Thome, J. M. Wheless, C. W. Shack leford and Miss Mary Jerome. ^ CHORAL CLUB HAS DELIGHTFUL MEETING .
