tobacco in Farmville, and it is
hoped the big companies will

Sales have been running con
tiauously since the market open
ed with the buyers starting' at
niite o'clock in the morning: and
stopping ,at five in the afternoon,
barely finishing each day's sale
by Quitting time; and since Wed
nesday the market has been in
a block, only two houses getting
a sale Thursday, with the same
condition existing today. Many
thousand pounds now on 'the
local floors will have to wait 'il
Saturday or Monday.
Fannviile is losing tobacco

The Rebecca Winburne chapter of
the U. D. C. held itfe first fall meeting:
of thia- year on last Tuesday, with
Mrs. R. H. Knott at her hpme on
Church street Fifteen were present
Mrs. Otto Turnage, president; pre
sided" over the business session during
which time plans for the state con
vention which is to be held in Ftty
etteville on the 14th and 16th of Oc
tober; were discussed and Mesdames
G. M. Holden and W. C. Askew were
elected delegates to same. Also Mrs.
Turnage will go by reason of her af
fice as president of the district and
of thw local chanter.' A nominating'
committee; to select officers for the
coming- year, was appointed. Inter
esting,-papers were read by Mrs. W.
C. As&w and Mrs. J. IrMorgan. An
unusually dekious salad course was
served by Mrs; Knott
Special guests were Mrs. Jordan
and Mrs. Satterfield, recent comers to
the town.
