LITERARY CLUB MEETS WITH ? MRS. JAMES H. DARDEN. Mrs. J. H. Darden was hostess to the members of the Literary dug Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 3. Her home was 'beautifully decorated with ferns and bright colored chrysanthe mums. The meeting was called to order by the "president, Mrs. G. A. Jones. After roll call, the minutes at the last meeting were read and ap proved. During a short business ses sion the club women were ic&ed to pledge themselves anew for the sale of Red Cross Seals. A committee composed of Miss Annie Perkins, Miss Tabitha De .Visconti and Mrs. J. L Morgan was appointed to plan most effectively the sale of seals,' and to urge the people of Farmville to co operate with us in our effort'to erad icate the "Great White Plague" which is so disastrously sweeping over our Stateand Nation. The Book committee reported that the se'ection of books for the ensuing year had been completed and the sec retary was instructed to order same. The first paper* on the new program "Current Books" were given in a most interesting way by Mrs. J. I.. Morgan and Mrs. J. W. Parker. The! book for the day was an autobiogra phy by Etsu Inagaki Sugimoto, Daughter of the Samurai." Mrs. Morgan gave a sketch of Madame Sugimoto's life and MrsJParker dis cussed the customs and ceremonies of the Japanese household, comparing them with our American customs. Miss Annie Perkins read a 'short story by Madame Sugimoto, "The Nameless," The program was con cluded by the singing of the Club Woman's hymn, after which Mrs. Darden served a delightful salad course.
