The closing, of t^g? tobacco market last September wee equivalent to a decisively drawn ?little-front, with?"They shall not pass"?as the battle-cry. The re opening was identical to a great vic tory won in behalf of Humanity. There was economic warfare, with all qf the attendant wreckage of the masses. The rise of tobacco prices marked the turning point of the tide qf battle, and real recovery for this section. ? Once more men could work, and feel that they might share the fruits of their toil, and that their women and children would not be the vica rious sacrifice to unbalanced profits. Therefore, being a patriotic unit, mindful of human rights, we are gratified to record our part in the tobacco program as the most signif icant and far-reaching activity dur ing the past year, not forgetting our contribution to the swimming pool, the library, and the planting of trees ?all of which are salient services in what our beloved President Roose velt designates as a "Building Era" ?building, we hope, for a stauncher "Ship of State" and more "Stately Mansions" for the soul of Human ity! This will be the first of its kind in North Carolina. The announcement was made at the Flag Day meeting, and will go down in the Chapter History as its most impressive and outstand ?ras highly appro that Mrs. Lyman Isaac Manning of sp?ak on Patriotic >rary work.
