?*?M???^ ? . ? ? AMERICAN LEGION HOLDS 1 LADIES NIGHT; REV. MR. { WICKER PRINCIPAL SPEAKER 1 < The local poet, of the American Legion, entertained eighty of Re members and ladies, including mem bers of its Auxiliary, at a banquet on Friday evening. The Legion hall 1 was elaborately decorated with holly, J greenery and motifs appropriate to the season, the dinner being in ; charge of the Junior Woman's club. Post Commander 0. G. Spell pre sided, and Dr. P. E? Jones welcomed the guests, the response being made by Mrs. J. W. Parker. The speaker of the occasion was Rev. Worth Wicker, Episcopal rec tor, of Greenville, who outlined gen eral plans of the Legion organisa tion for the new year, and presented reasons why World War soldiers should receive the bonus at the pres ent time. Hon. J. H. Payior intro duced Rev. Mr. Wicker. One of the highlights of the pro gram for the evening was the pre sentation of a check for $50 by the Post to its Auxiliary for use in its rehabilitation activities,' the gift be ing delivered by Hon. Payior and accepted by Mrs. W. M. Willis, Aux iliary president. In a contest, conducted by J, W. Joyner, Mrs. J. H. Bynum received a box of sweets as an award for the ladies, and Commander Spell a car on ot cigarettes. Songs, popular hiring the World War, were led by kfrei M. V. {ones, who was also ac rompanist for the musical events. CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY Miss Daisy Barnhart Dixon, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. C# T. Dixon, celebrated her seventh birthday on Wednesday of this week with a love ly dinner party, to which a few of ber most intonate playmates were invited. Featuring the enjoyable occasion was the "listening in" to Old Man Happy who read the letter, written by the starry eyed hostess, which named her teacher, Miss Annie Perk ins, her guests; Jane Turnage, Mary Leah Thome and Cabot Monk, and sent loving greetings to her "Mud die," Mrs. Daisy Parsons, in Nor wood. Mr. and Mrs. George Eason of Snow Hill were Walsvonburg visitors Sunday afternoon, guests of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac J. Rouse. Messrs. K. D. S. Dixon, Qari T. Hicks, Isaac J. Rom* and W. V. Rid dick attended the Methodist District Steward's meeting1 in Rocky Mount, ( Sunday. , Friends of Mrs. C. T. Hicks will regret very much to hear that she ; is on the sick list but hope that she will be well and out soon. Friends of the Walstonburg com munity will be glad to know that Mr. J. C. Gardner has had his formal opening of his attractive new store and will be glad to serve the public. The Milt Tolbert players will present a play in the school audi torium on Tuesday night, Dec. 18, sponsored by the local P. T. A. Ad mission 16c and 25c. Title "Judy's Diream." These plays are always good and the audience is assured of an evening of enjoyment. The Mission Band of the Christian Church was entertained at the home of Mrs. J. M. Bailey Saturday night with a party. Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. H. C. McKeel being joint hostesses. Games were played and delicious refreshments served.
