STATE PRESIDENT 1 VISITS LOCAL AUXILIARY " -I Mrs. Edyth Price, of Charlotte,! state president of the Spanish American Auxiliary, attended the monthly meeting of the local group on Wednesday and addressed .the members on the varied objectives of the state organization, outlining plans for the future months and comparing them with achievements during the past year. Mrs. Annie Anderson and Mrs. Nonie Barrett were joint hostesses to the Auxiliary at the home of the former, and Mrs. P. T. Atkinson, Auxiliary president, presided over the business session, which followed the state president's address. "Iced fruit juices, cake and salted nuts were served after adjournment Mrs. Hubert Dixon and Mrs. W. W. Lewis were special guests of the hos tesses at this time. ? ' ? I LITERARY CLUB ? . v ' .. ? 1 ? ? | With Miss Edna Robinson as hos tess, Wednesday afternoon, members of the Farmville literary Club, in condu<Lng a recent series of meet ings, devoted to the study of Art, hesogl a splendid program presented by Miss Tabitha DeVisconti and Mrs. J. H. Darden. Miss DeVisconti recounted a re cent and an interesting interview with Miss Mable Pugh, of New York and Morrisville, who has won a dis tinctive place among North Cavo lhia artists, especially in the deld of block printing. A collection of fine prints by this artists, secured by Miss DeVisconti for exhibition at this time, aroused much interest and enthusiasm among the members. Mrs. Darden discussed the subject of the University's Art School. The program was concluded with a brief talk by Mrs. J. W. Joyner, relative to the exhibit of the work of North Carolina artists, sponsored recently by the Kinston Art Club, and which she attended. Mrs. J. L Morgan, in whose home the meeting was held, U9ed tulips, iris and other bright blossoms to enhance the beauty of her home on Church street, and assisted the hos tess in serving a sweet coupe, fol lowed by cheese pastries and salted nuts. ' i MINUTES OF THE LOCAL ROTARY CLUB 1 ? 11 ^ The Farmville Rotary Club met last Tuesday evening ad 6:45 in the Farmville High School building. After an enjoyable shad supper the business of the election of officers was in order. A motion was made, seconded and passed that the report of the nominating committee be ac cepted in its entirety. Upon motion the following officers were elected by acclamation: John Lewis, Resi dent; Manley Idles, Vice-President; Irvin Morgan, Secretary and Treas urer; Ed Nash Warren, Assistant Secretary and Treasurer; Board of directors: Jim Joyner, George Davis, Sob Boyd, J. The program was turned over to he chairman of the program commlt ee who made a few remarks rela ive to the Rotary Code of Ethics. rLEE CLUB WINS FIRST POSITIONS IN CONTEST Farmville's high school Glee Club lembers and director, Miss Vivian lase, are receiving congratulations pon the good showing made in the istrict music contest held in Green ille, Saturday, April 13, the soloist itrants, Helen Willis, soprano, and Ivira Tyson, alto, winning <rst laces, with the club chorus boasting top rating also. Miss Ann Marie Jefferson, of Duntain, pupil of Mrs. Haywood mith, a piano teacher of the Farm lie school and club accompanist, as among the winners in instru ental contests. These honors entitle the winners enter the State Music Contest to held at Greensboro, April 24. Since finding ways for the group of 22 to get to Greensboro is quite a problem to promoters of the Club, Miss Case requests that any one who can assist in this way notify her at once. W. S. Patterson of Stony Point, Alexander County, has some pine woods where 5,000 trees stand to the acre. He plans to thin part of this acreage to 600 trees per acre. 'The trees are ..boat 40 years old. !
