Morgan were gracious hosts- at a lovely bridge party, given at their home on Mon day evening, honoring guests, Mr. and Mrs! Thomas Nelson, of Wash ington, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Smith, ant Mr. and Mrs. Jim Tingle, of Kinrton. Five tables were placed for the games. ? Scoring nigh for the ladies, Mrs; Jim Tingle was presented with 'a silver tray and I. E. Satterfield re ceived the men's prize, a tie clasp. The honorees, together with Mr. -and Mrs. R. A. Parker, who were recently married, were presented with silver pencils and sport handkerchiefs. ' As the guests arrived they were served iced punch by Mrs. R. A. Parker; Mrs. L, T. Pierce, Mrs. I. E. Satterfield and Mrs. O. G. Spell. Ices, cakes and salted nuts were served when cards were laid aside. GARDEN DEPARTMENT Mrs. Mary Moye Patterson was hostess to the Garden Club at her country home on Monday afternoon. Mrs. T. E. Joyner, under whose leadership during the past two years the club has grown membership, activities and interest, presented the incoming chairman, Miss Bettie Joyner, who presided. Taking as her theme note "Unself isness" she. made a splendid talk urging the members to make gard ens and grow flowers for the enjoy ment of everybody and to carry on the slogan of the club for a more beautiful town. After the roll call and reading of the minutes of the last meeting by Mrs.' Charles H. Mozingo ,who has been the loyal and efficient secre tary for several years, the follow in officers and chairmen were ap pointed by Miss Joyner; Vice Chair man, Mrs. T. E. Joyner; Secretary, Miss Tabitha M. DeVisconti; Pro gram Committee, Mrs. B. Streeter Sheppard, Mrs. Haywood Smith, Mrs. John T. Thorne and Mrs. Mary Moye Patterson. Membership Com mittee, Mrs. Carlton Carr, Mrs. W. J. Rasberry and Mrs, J. M. Wheless. The major project will be to con tinue beautification of the Park around the swimming pool. The main object at present is to secure rustic seats to be placed there. The meetings during the summer will be held in gardens of the mem bers. Mrs. D. R. Morgan, president of the Woman's Club gave a short talk, offering her cooperation in the work of this department and Mrs. R. A. Parker told of the beauty of the wild flowers especially iris on a re cent trip to Western Carolina. The program consisted of inter esting and instructive talks on The Propagation of Holly by Mrs. T. E. Joyner. The culture of iris by Mrs. Hay wood Smith and timely suggestions for July by Mrs. Calrton Carr. During the social hour a delicious ice course was served by the hostess assisted by her daughter, Miss Cora Lee Patterson and her sister, Mrs. Henrietta Moye Williamson. Invited guests were: Mrs. Hugh Benson, Lenoir, N. C.; Mrs. Cylde Finch, Henderson, N. C.; Mrs. Jesse Moye, Mrs. Lester1 Turnage, Mrs. Alfred B. Moore and Mrs. R. A. Parker, of Farmville. . The final meeting of the club year of the Marry Matrons, was held Tues day afternoon at the attractive home of ifaa J. O. Pollard on Pine street; midsummer flowers being used in artistic arrangement. Lovelace, presiding, there was an in teresting discussion of the study for the fall and winter months, result ing in the appointment as a commit' tee for the selection, Mrs, W. M. Wil lis, Mrs. M. V. Jones and Mrs. Wes ley R. Willis. Mrs. Sallie K. Horton opened the literary program with a paper on Edwin Booth, followed by "Ellen Terry's Memories," read by Miss Mary Friar House, under the general topic of "Stars of The First Magni tude," completing the excellent study course followed this year, Prior to adjournment, and during the usual exchange at the last meet ing of the best wishes for a happy vacation, the hostess presented each one with a minatore motor car for tripe over land, After being served lime ice, top | ped with cream, and individual cakes, I the Merry Matrons and especial guests, Mrs. A.
