M. a TBLTEBTON) PSBSONALS Friends regret that Mr. D. D. Over ton of Greenville, father of Mrs. R. A. Fountain, Jr., is quite ill. Mr. and Mrs. Preston Gardner re turned from New ork, Tuesday. News of the death of Mr. Ben Gardner, of Smithfleid, was received here Tuesday night Mr. Gardner is survived by many relatives and friends in and near Fountain. Mr. Raymond Cooke continues ill at his home, however his condition shows a slow improvement WINS PRIZES Miss Mary Carolyn Reddick was awarded the Beat Debaters Medal, Monday evening at the commence ment exercises, for having won the honor of bong the best debater on the team. Mr. Alfred Dawaon Tugwell was also presented with a check for five dollars as a prixe for being the beat driver of the school bases. PIANO RECITAL The commencement exercises of Fountain High School began Thurs day evening when Mrs. R. A. Foun tain, Jr., presented her pupils in their annual spring recitaL Those taking part on the program from both the piano and expression classes were: Jeanne Eagles, Martha and Mary Emma Jefferson, Louise Woo ten. Alma Owens, Helen Brown Jefferson, Eloise Owens, Ruth Park er, Nina Estefie and Carol Yelverton, Mary Carolyn Reddick, Marjorie and Maude Emily Smith, Betsy White Fountain and Earl Trevathan. Just before the program opened Mr. H. B. Mayo presented Mrs. Foun tain with a lovely basket of flowers. In presenting them to her he said that they were an expression from the class of their love and gratitude to her for her diligent work with them. WINS HONORS Prank Owens, son of Mr. H. F. Owens, was graduated from Foun tain High School on Monday evening with one of the beat records that few, if any, Fountain students have ever made. He is fifteen years old and has completed the eleven grades in ten school years. He won the honor of being the Valedictorian of his class with an average for the four years of 96.9. He competed in the State Triangular Debates for three years and was awarded the Best Debator Medal in his junior year. He was president of his class for two years and was also president of the Honorary Beta Club during his senior year. In addition to his schol astic attainments he has also taken quite an active part in school tha letics. He was a member of the Basketball and Baseball teams and was awarded Setters' for excellent play and sportsmanship on both teams.
