Mash* burn of the Christian church, and ! the Rev. H. M. Wilson, Presbyterian j minister. Although she had been in ill halth I for some years, Mrs. Lewis was ap j patently as well as usual Saturday morning, being up and interested in a radio program ?rior to her sudden passing, which occurred on the day before that of her huband's, Samuel Taylor Lewis, a year ago. Surviving are her mother, Mrs* Bertha Barrow Joyner; seven daugh-/! ters, Mrs. E. C. Modlin, Norfolk, Va., Mrs. M. L. Gay of WalBtonburg, Mrs. H. B. Baker, Mrs. W. E. [ As a young wurniui wc nw ried to Samuel Taylor Lewis on De cember 20, 1906, and they made their home four miles West of Farmville? a home, which later became famous in this section for its general atmos phere of cordiality and the dispen sing of hospitality equal to that of the old Southern plantations. I Mr. Lewis, known throughout East j em Carolina as a man, who found I the true formula for happy living to be a devoted husband and father and a charitable kindly and compassion ate neighbor to every one, found In. Mrs. Lewis a kindred soul, heart and I mind, who spent her life also in de votion and service.' to family and Mends, exemplifying throughout lbs attributes of Christian womanhood. Mrs. Lewis took an active interest I in the Farmville Methodist church, I of which she had been a faithful I member since early girlhood, and in the Farmville school, of which her husband was a trustee for many years. In recent years infirm health (caused a decrease of activity but her interest in both ihstiutions never lessened and is reflected in her daughter and son, several of whom tare teachers and loyal church mem bers. Blind for several years, her (patience and Christian fortitude Was la source of constant inspiration to her host of friends. Active pallbearers were nephews: IT. E. Joyner, Jr., R.
