BUY CHRISTMAS SEALS
The annual sale of Christmas seals
in Pitt County presents an opportu
nity to assist in the fight upon tuber
culosis without giving up an adequate
return for the money used.
Christmas letters, packages and
cards should bear the seals. which
make them more attractive and take
the place of others that ipight be
used for the same purpose. How
ever, the Christmas seals also help
finance a warfare against disease that
is of the utmost Importance to every
citizen.
Let's everybody buy Christmas
seals, and use .them this year.
TWO WEEKS OF SHOPPING
It is just about two weeks before
Christmas Day and wise shoppers are
already beginning to make their pur
chases for the Christmas season.
The early shoppers secures several
advantages which cannot be obtained
by last minute buyers. For example,
clerks have ample time in which to
wait on. customers and to show them
the attention that often results in a
splendid purchase. Moreover, before
stocks of merchandise are pawed over
and selected from, the chances of se
curing the perfect gift is alluring to
an. experienced shopper.
Aside from the benefits to be se
cured by the buyer, it might be well
to, call attention to the clerk's side
of holiday shopping. Early buyers
tend to prevent the last minute rush
that overwhelms stores and clerks
and makes buying a nuisance to all
concerned in the last day or so of the
Christmas season.
Take our advice. Shop early and
get what you want.
FACTS ABOUT INSANITY
It is somewhat surprising to be
told that one of every twenty per
sons born in 1938 will face the pros
pect, on the basis of current statis
tics, of being committed to a mental
hospital sometime during his life
span.
Dr. Harold F. Dorn, of the U. S.
Public Health Service, says this will
result because of the changing char
acter of the population and the fact
that larger proportion of mental pa
tients come from the older groups.
He points out that data kept by sev
eral states over a long period of time
"do not support the contention that
the incidents of mental disorders
have been increasing rapidly."
While mental disorders are not yet
thoroughly understood, either by
psychiatrists or the general public,
they are now generally considered
physical maladies. In time, eve& the
general public will begin to under
stand that mental disease is closely
related to physical disease and there
by loae some of the superstitious awe
with which such eases are sometimes
regarded.

TRADE AT HOME APPEAL III
I
By Ctaiber of Commerce and Merchants Association I
Why db your Christmas Shopping at Home? It
There arc many reasons that might be advanced. f{]
First, we would say, you can find in the stores in Farmville as I
high class merchandise, at just as attractive and reasonable prices, It]
as you can find'in stores in Raleigh, Rocky Mount, Wilson, the same I
type of shopping here that you do when you go shopping in the above
mentioned towns. 1.1
III
Second, we would say, that as citizens of our good town, making j
our living here, we owe it to the Merchants of Farmville to do our
shopping with them, for they in turn support every good and worthy
cause advanced by our Churches, Schools, Clubs and Charitable or
ganizations; and pay a large tax toward the upkeep of our well man
aged town, all of which contributes to our welfare.
We are all-friends and neighbors here in Farmville working to
gether for one common cause. If this be true, why fool ourselves by
thinking that we can go to other towns and buy merchandise of the
same class any cheaper than you can in, FsrmxiUe.
We, therefore appeal t*> every citizen of Farmville at this Christ
mas Season to do all of your trading at homeland save the expense
of going elsewhere to buy the same class merchandise that can be
found at home.
