MISS LEWIS ENTERTAINS
Miss Martha Lewis was charming
hostess at a dinner party on Friday
evening- at her home. Lovely arrangements
of yellow jonquils and
white spina with groups tf lighted
yellow candles, made a pleasing setting
for the tables, in the living
room.
A three course, fried chicken, dinner
with grapefruit cocktail and
jelly roll, topped with whipped cream
and orange slices, was served.

Moore, Miss Irene Worthington
and Miss Mary Mayo, Andy Martin,

PRIMITIVE BAPTIST UNION
The Contentnea Union of the Primitive
Baptist Church met at the
Damascus Church, here, on Saturday
and Sunday. Rev. J. B. Roberts, pastor,
announces that this meeting- was
one of the best they have ever had.
Every Church in the union was represented
and there were also representatives
from corresponding unions.
Six visiting preachers were in
attendance, each making short talks.
The local church was presented a
silver communion service by Mr. and
Mrs. Lautares of Greenville.
Rev. Roberts, in behalf of all attending,
wishes to express thanks to
all the Farmville friends who helped
to make this union a success, especially
the warehousemen who so kindly
opened their buildings for the luncheon
spread. About five hundred people
were in attendance for the Sunday
services.
REV. WILSON PREACHES
FAREWELL SERMON
Rev. H. M. Wilson, pastor of the
Presbyterian Church preached his
last sermon Sunday morning. After
expressing appreciation for the cooperation
and fellowship of Church
Officers, Woman's Auxiliary, and
Young People's Organisations, be
emphasized the need of continuing
in Christian graces that Christ be
truly represented iit the * world
through His followers. At the close
of the service the sacraments were
administered, thus fittingly bringing
to a close a minstery of meek, unselfish
and tireless devotion.
Rev. Wilson was called to the
Farmville Church fa February, 1983
and, since that date, has faithfully
served as God's"minister to the local
Church, the Presbyterian Church of
Falkland, and the two mission points
—Carraway's Chapel and Ballards.
In his quiet way, never faltering in
nor swerving from the course set
before him, he has endeared himself
to many who feel the challenge of
the race set and whose love and best
wishes go with him.
- Rev. Wilson, with his wife and son,
left Thursday to take up his new
duties as pastor of Bayless Manorial
Church of Concord, North Carolina.

Bosquets of yellow daffodils, forsythia
and bridal wreath made a lovely
setting for the four tables which
were arranged in the living room
where a three course luncheon was
served. Guests were invited into
the dining room for the dessert
course, which was served from a
beautifully appointed table. Bubble
bowls filled with white narcissus sad
fern and flanked by lighted tapers,
formed the background for the decollated
cake which centered the table.
Showers* of white ribbons leading
from the center of the cake to the
individual dessert plates, when pulled
by each guest, revealed individual
engagement rings for each. The
honor guest's place was distinguished
by a corsage of white nsrrissns and
attached to her ribbon was her own
engagement ring. As the ribbons
were pulled, the hostess lifted a lace
cover from the top of the cake, which
bore the announcement, Martha and
J. D., April 18. The honoree cut the
cake which was served with green
and white ices, salted nuts and mints.
The hostess presented Miss Basberry
with china in her chosen pattern.
Miss Myrtle Sutton, bride-elect
of the month, was remembered with
a lovely pottery vase.

Miss Annie Perkins graciously entertained

afternoon at the home of Mrs. J. M.
Hobgood. Quantities of spring flowers
were used in decoration.
During the business session, Mrs.
W. M. Willis gave the concluding report
on the Nutrition Classes, announcing
that a gift had been sent
to Miss Verona Lee Joyner, as a
token of appreciation for her services
in this endeavor. Miss Tabitha
DeVisconti reported on the Cancer
Control drive, reminding the members
to avail themselves of the opportunity
of hearing talks on this
subject at the scheduled mass meeting
and over the radio. ' '
Mrs. B. S. Sheppard gave a most
interesting talk on the "Drees of the
Eighteenth Century," colored plates
being shown in illustration: In closing,
Mrs. Sheppard requested Mrs.
Haywood Smith to play "Rule
Britannia," which was written in
1700, as a piano soJo^ .
Miss Perkins cohducted an interesting
contest in which Mrs. Robots
scored high, winning an attractive
vase, filled with yellow daffodils.
During a delightful social hour,
lemon pie with salted nuts and hot
coffee was served by the hostess, assisted
by Mm. Hobgood and Mrs. J.
M. Wheless.
STOCKHOLDERS MEETING
The annual meeting of the stockholders
of the Farmville Building and
Loan Association will be held in the
City Hall Wednesday night, April 15,
at 8:00 o'clock. All members urged

During the evening guests were entertained
-with games of bingo, quia
and music contests.
Refreshments were served in the
dining room, which carried a color
scheme of-green and yellow, lighted
tapers being used aa backgrounds for
flower bouquets.
Punch was served from a lace-covered
table on which hostess trays,
filled with novel shaped sandwiches,
cookies, nuts and candies were placed.
Mr. Lewis was presented a .watch
as a gift from the company employees.

VOWS SPOKEN
Mrs. Sallie Keel Horton and Mark
Dixon were married on Sunday afternoon
at five o'clock in a quiet ceremony
of dignity and simplicity, at
the borne of Mrs. Horton. Rev. Marvin
Y. Self, pastor of the Methodist
Church, performed the ceremony.
The vow* were spoken in the living
room where beautiful arrangements
of pink carnations, roses and gladioli
were used in decoration.
The couple was unattended. Mrs.
Horton wore a dress of heavenly blue
crepe With a matching coat, trimmed
with blue fox. Her red hat was trimmed
with blue and she qsed blue accessories.
Her shoulder corsage was
of pink Briarcliff roses and orchid.
Mrs. Dixon, a woman of .much personal
charm, is connected with the
Post Office in Farmville.
Mr. Dixon, popular tobacconist,
holds a position with A. C. Monk and
Company, here.
Immediately after the Ceremony

to New York.
