A TOILER'S PRAYER God, grant that I may find my task, And have the grace to do it well; And leave behind a stepping-stone, To earth's triumphant citadel. Keep firm my faith and strong my grasp, On true perspective and the goal; That I may toil and weary not, And be the captain of my soul. Let not the lure of fame or greed, Make one dark blot upon my line; That each day's work be clean and good, In keeping with Thy will and mine. God, grant that I may find my task, And have the grace to do it well; And leave behind a stepping-stone, Complete, unm&rred, celestial. Alex C. D. Noe. Life is a problem but not an equation. It isn't patriotic to make light of a blackout. If people didn't die the undertaker couldn't live. The rich own the country and the poor occupy it. One who toots his own horn is never applauded. It is better to be right than president and much easier. Figures in mathematics make problems. So do figures in dresses. Money makes the .mare go arid frequently makes her throw the rider. One hears something every day he doesn't like—the alarm clock for instance. Hearsay evidence isnt admitted by courts but is heartily received by gossips. There couldn't be anybody so good aa MacArthur; but this is a time for miracles. Only a court can revoke a dead man's will. A woman can do it if he isn't dead. "Loyalty to colleagues" sounds noble, bat it means keeping failures in important jobs. Water seeks its level and becomes stagnant after the level is reached. Man does the same thing. ' V NEWSPAPER COMMENTS:— "A visitor in the Pitt County court is always impressed by the dignity ud ethics of the procedure when Judge Dink James is presiding. The courtly Pitt County jurist permits no third degreeing' of witnesses on the stand. He has the respect and confidence of court officials, members of the bar and the general public." Greenville News Leader—Nov. 16, 1941. "Courtesy in County Court. There is one characteristic of the Pitt County Court, in Greenville, presided over by Judge Dink James, that is a good example for all courts. The North Carolina Symphonic Choir, now known as the American Victory Choir qf North Carolina, which will be heard here in a Victory concert, Tuesday, June 2, at 8i30 P. M., in the Farmville High School Auditorium. It is one of the country's unique musical organisations, being composed of thirty-six r ang people, under thirty years of age, from fifteen cities and towns in North Carolina. The choir was organised under the direction of Lewis Sidney Bullock, in 1040 and since that time has served its State well, having presented ninety-two concerts to more than fifty thousand persons and travelling over 14,000 miles through twenty-two states from coast to coast as official Good Will Ambassadors. These choir members, since they come from such a wide area, are able to meet for rehearsal only once a week in a centrally located town. The rehearsals are necessarially long and hard because an entire concert program must be learned in six or seven rehearsals. These rehearsals usually run from seven to eight hoars, but these young people dp not mind because they have a to do. They are taught correct breathing, posture, and voice production so that they can practice for houre without tiring. The Victory Choir is sponsored by the people of North Carolina /u>d is presented here as a Good Will gesture and a contribution to civilian morale. The Victory Concert program is especially arranged to fit today's need. Every one will enjoy the groat American patriotic songs, folk songs, negro spirituals as only a Southern Choir can sing them, cowboy songs and great hymns of the Church. A capacity audience is expected to attend tiia Victory Concert. Let us Forward March With Music. ■ FOR U.S. Fellow Voters of Pitt County -• . ' • '/■ , '.
