Meyer left Friday for Eastern North Carolina Sana torium, at Wilson, where she will be under treatment for several months. Hobgood attended an Executive Board meeting' of the State Federation of Women's Clubs convening in Raleigh this week and left afterwards for a visit to rela tives in Charlotte. S. degree in Business Education from Woman's College University of North Caro lina, Greensboro, in June 1M2. She is a popular member of the Albe marle high school faculty. Mr. Wilson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. EHie Franklin Wilson, of Abbe ville, S. C. He was educated at Clemson College, where he was as sociate . editor of "The Tiger" in 1941. He received his B. & degree in In dustrial Education and prior to his induction in the United States Army was a member of the Albemarle high school faculty. „• Series of Parties. Mrs. W. Leslie Smith was hostess Tuesday afternoon and evening at a series of parties, among the loveliest of the entire winter swarm here. She entertained at her spacious home in which red and white color combina tion obtained in the floral arrange ments of gladioli, carnations, haw thorns and potted plants, and the heart motif of the Valentine season was used in bridge table appoint ments!. ,.. . Members ox uie uontrscc uiuo ana additional friends of the hostess play ed at four tables in the afternoon and the same number of players at tended in the evening. In the afternoon games, Mrs. C. Hubert Joyner won the club prize, War Savings Stamps, and Mrs. R. A. Parker was awarded pottery as the guest prise. Mrs. Lath Morriss and Mn. Alton W. Bobbitt received the consolations. Mrs. G. Alex Rouse, a recent bride, was remem bered by the hostess with a lovely gift. Mrs. W. M. Willis scored high in the evening progressions and was awarded a potted plant, and Miss Elisabeth Davis received the conso lation, guest soap. Mrs. Henry T. Smith was presented a lovely going away gift by the hostess. Delicious angel cake, topped with cream and cherries, salted nuts, cheese straws and coffee were serv ed at both occasions. Merry Matrons. Festairing the program of the Merry Matrons meeting this week -was * talk on Ihe subject of "Fin* Arts" by Miss Annie Perkins, guest speaker, who put the Art of living under the spotlight and reed a sketch of Grace ^Noell CroweU and a number of her poems in this connection. Mrs. J. I. Morgan, the hostess, presided over the meeting in the ab sence of the president, Mrs. R. A. Fields. During a pleasant social hour the hostess* assisted by Miss Edna Rob inson, served a deHcous salad course with coffee. The Morgan home Was beautifully w decorated throughout with hawthorns and other flowering shrubs and early Spring flowera. Progressive Club. - Mrs. G. M. Holden delightfully en tertained the Progressive Bridge Club this week. Hawthorns and A somber of Farmville friends at tended the funeral of Elmo B. James in Williamston, Monday, including J. Y. Mr. James* death occurred Sunday as the result of at heart attack. He was well known and held in high esteem here having been connected with Monk's warehouse for several years during the tobacco season. Seventeen members and a guest, Shelby Roebuck, were present at the Bird Club meeting on Saturday wheft Donnie Bryan read a story shout a Bobolink whose leg was broken and wing hurt probably by a croel boy with a shotgun. Fortunately he was found by a bird lover who made a splint for the broken leg and bound up the injured wing. He was fed cheese, yrarms and bugs, broad, wheat seed and apple and improved rapid ly. In two weeks he could fly about the room and when fully recovered he was turned loose and joyfully hop ped about the branches as happy aa could be for several days before leav ing'sever to return. . . The Bobolink should be given a place among our half dozen song sters. He has a wonderful range of notes. He is beautifully colored but Ms mate Is a dull, sober looking brown bird. He is very proud of her nevertheless, and does his beat to entertain her with song during the brooding season, and is very atten tive to the young babies. 0e Ssats caterpillars and insects of various kinds in the summer time and is especially fond of amy worms. At refreshment time Mrs.. B. Streeter Sheppard sent over oatmeal cookies and cheese crackers and it is needless to say that the members ap preciated her thoughtfubteas and enjoyed the sample of her baking proficiency. .
