W SPECIAL SERVICES Miss Dorothy Lewis, state* at East Carolina Teachers College, Greenville, has recently been honor* ed by her olection as a pledge to Zeta Delta Chapter of Alpha Iota/ International Honorary Business Sorority. There an now one hundred fifty chapters in all sections of the United States and Canada. The purposes of Alpha Iota are fourfold: " To encourage good scholarship; to inspire the noblest and best—a good _ personality; to foster friendship among the girls school; to develop pride in the achievements of women in business. Since the selection of members of Alpha Iota is made solely on the basis of scholarship and outstanding leadership, her election as pledge to this Sorority is proof of Miss Lewis' good record during her course at East Carolina Teachers College. C. for the past two years, five terms of which she has been' on the roll of honor. * SURPRISE PARTY Miss Mary Elizabeth Can celebrated her birthday on Wednesday evening, April 21st, at a lovely surprise party given in her honor by Miss Hatnkfc Carr, at heir home which was beautifully decorated with narcissus, iris and spirea. Interesting contests and games of bingo were enjoyed. War Savings Stamps were presented to Miss Jaflft Dail as winner of the Bible oontest and to Milton Williamson, winner of the Movie contest. Bingo winners received many attractive novelty prizes. Ice cream, candies, nuts and mints were served with (fee birthday cake which the, honoree cut from a beautifully appointed table which was covered with a lace doth and bore lighted, tapers. Greenville. t jis TIN CAN DRIVE Two thousand and one hundred pounds of tin cans were collected here in the recent salvage drive carried on by the Farmville Schcol children. A cash prize of ,|6.00 given by the Chamber of Commerce for the room collecting the largest number of cans was won by Miss Robinson's Fifth gtade.
