THE METHODIST CHURCH The music and the messages on Sunday will be appropriate for Mother's Day. Miss Elizabeth McKinney will bring the message at 8:00 o'clock. CHRISTIAN CHURCH There will be special music on Sunday, Mother's Day, at the Christian Church and the sermon topic will be "Mother in Israel." A gift of Memorial hymn books will be dedicated at this service. Mis. C. E. Moore was hostess to the members of the Episcopal Auxiliary on Monday afternoon when Mr*. J.W. Joyner gave a splendid review of several chapters of the Auxiliary's current study book, the closing chapter of which will be given at the next meeting to be held with Mrs. Moore on 3rd Monday. - Roses, iris, narcissus and patasies in lovely arrangements decorated the home and the hostess' served fruit ■salad and iced tea. ATTENDANCE RECORD Two daughters of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Holloman from Farmville have attended school from the first grade through the twelfth without missing a day, receiving a perfect attendance certificate for all of these yean. These two girls, Joan and Nancy Holloman, graduated from Maury High School, April 29. They have bet® awarded a medal from this school for their splendid record. Miss Helen Brown Jeffetson, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lang Jefferson of Fountain, was married on Friday evening to Private John Roderick Harris, Army Air Forces, son, of Mr. and Mrs. J. U., Farmville Missionary Baptist Ch'irch, met Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. A. J. Melton. Mrs. Dorothy Gay was in charge of the devotional, using references from the Book of Job. Miss Annie Perkins and Mrs. A. B. Tyson gave & splendid program on Christian Education, the Sunday School, and the Daily Vacation Bible School. All members were present except two. Mrs. Jake Joyner was a visitor. After the business session, the meeting closed with the lord's Prayer. ^ : The hostesses, Mrs. Melton and Mm. Robert Joyner served delicious cake and ice cream, x , i PRESBYTERIAN CIRCLES MEET The Circle groups of the Presbyterian Auxiliary met on Monday of this week with Mrs. W. C. Holston, hostess in the afternoon, and Mrs. Cherry Eaaley, hostess in the evening. "Hie Bible Study, "John, the Praying Partner" and the program, "Through the Printed Pare," were developed by Mm J. M. Hobgood and Mils. J. C; Corbett in the afternoon when 13 members were present and by Mrs. Cherry Easley and Miss Margaret Smith in the evening when 1L members attended. ^teoses, iris, narcissus and panaies decorated the. homes. Mrs. Holston served fruit salad and Mrs. Easley, chilled fruit cocktail with cake. Pansy blossoms decorted the plates. LITERARY- CLUB Miss Elisabeth Davis presented a most Interesting program at the meeting of the Literary Club on Wednesday afternoon. The home of the hostess, Mrs. Haywood Smith, was beautifully decorated with quantities of roses, psnsies and valley lilies. Mrs. Henrietta Williamson presided during the absence of the president and Miss Tabitha DeVisconti gave a report on the recent Cancer Control Drive in which the club took part. At the request of club members, Mrs. J. B. Joyner will be asked to give a full report at the next meeting of the State Convention, which she attended m High Point recently. > Mrs. Marvin Self and Mrs. G. M. Holden were special guests and 'the hostess served a delicious salad course with iced tea. She was as-1 sisted by Miss Dorothy Smith. , I CORRECTION ' Due to an error the officiating minister, Rev. We take pleasure in making the correction. • Teachers College, Mi» Dorothy Lewis of Pwmville WW elected VicePresident of the Student Co-operative Farmville's Federiteitd Clubs Recognized At State Convention Junior Woman's Club Receives Ootatantog Awyrf Farmville Clubwoman attending the State Convention of the North Carolina Federation at Women's Clubs iii High Point recently were Mrs. J. M. Hobgood, State Chairman of the Sallie Sovthall Cotton Loan Fond; Mrs. J. B. Joyner, past preddent pf the 15th District, who represented tL Literary Club; and Mrs. J«se Moye, past State Junior Editor, who represented the Woman's Club, of which she is presi&tat, and the Junior Women's Club. The Farmville Junior Woman's Club won the Llewellyn Williams Robinson Award, a pewter bowl, in the shape of a dogwood blossom, the State Flower, which is given to the Junior Club doing the moat outstanding Community Service in a town with a population under 5,000. Mrs. Mabry Pollard to president at the Club and the project for the year was in the field of welfare work. Two other state awards have bean won by the Farmville Juniors in previous years, the Hocutt Cup for attendance at District meetings,, when Mi*. James WhatQss, Jr., was president; and the Mamie Browne Latham award for Best Community Service,' won when Mrs. Jesse Moye was president. The Woman's Club received a certificate award for being among the Honor Soil Clubs. The literary dub, the Woman's Club and Junior Woman's Club were publicly commended for their work in the recent Cancer Control Dj-ive for Funds which the three Ctabe cooperated in making here, and the results of which were considered outstanding' for a town of this size. SHOWER On last Friday evening at the home of Mrs.- J. D. Jones, Mrs. Letha Edwards and Mrs. Jonas delightfully, entertained, honoring-Mrs. C. B. Bosbuck who will.soon leave to make' her home in Mississippi with her husr' band who is in service there. After several interesting games! were enjoyed the' hostesses assisted( by Misses Pat and Frances Jones j served a salad plate with grape Juice, after which they brought in a table laden with lovely gifts and presented i them to the honoree, who received several pieces of silver and china in her selected pattern.
